I hav just put the stock BOV on my R33. i had a after market one on there but got defected.

But the stock one is making a very high pitched piercing sound at about 2500 revs, its worse in second gear. its only wen i take off very slowly and the turbo isn't boosting.

my question is, Is this normal? and if not do u reckon the bov is stuffed or something else?

Also are R33's with stock bov supposed to FLUTTER if u hav a pod filter? one of my mates reckon it is, but mine Isn't. Any comments on this?

Thanks

James

Is it a pretty quiet high pitched noise? If so then yeah thats normal.

Fluttering is gay so thankfully only VLs flutter

Most will flutter wen u put a pod filter on it even if the BOV is stock, just depends on the filter, it will usually make the flutter wen its lower in the revs ie 3500 rpm and more of a short shap sound wen higher in the revs...

the flutter is prtty annoying tho all it creates is unwanted attention.

unlucky about the defect ive been pulled over a few times and the car searched for defects and the cops have never sed anything about my after market BOV... luckily nearly everything else in my car is engineered.

Hey, yeah its not to loud but u can hear it from the outside loudly, its like a high pitched metal sought of sound, its hard to discribe. but if u take off slowly around the 2500 3000rpms it'll pitch then stop as the revs continue to climb. i dont want to go buy another one and the same prob happens if this is normal, but something tells me it isn't.

let me know wot u think

Mine makes that high pitch noise. But it comes from the turbo. If you've got a boost gauge that reads vacuum, you probably find it makes the noise at a certain point. For mine it's -14 IN-Hg. You can only hear it because of the pod filter though. If you had the stock airbox it'll muffle out the sound.

Unless the sound yours is making is different too mine.

Yeah it sounds like your talking about the same thing. But it happens in every gear at a particular rev range and yeh Vacuum level.

I had an atmospheric Bov on before and i never heard it.

Now is this bad that this High Ringing (pitched) sound is comming from the turbo?

Another thing iv got a K&N pod on there, i dont get any flutter out of it, and my mate with the same car and pod does! WHAT does this mean? Do u get it?

I've got the K&N pod too, not that it makes any difference. The high pitch noise isn't bad. Don't worry about it. Mines been doing it for ages. I heard mine make this noise as soon as I switched to a pod.

As for flutter, it could be due to his BOV having a higher spring tension. If its a stock bov, it might have been squashed to raise the spring tension thus giving the flutter. Standard spring rates in the stock bov does not make flutter. That would be why yours isn't doing it.

Thanks guys for ur help, much appreciated. I'll leave the BOV as it is and as for the high pitched turbo sound i'll just have to ignore it.

The noise is normal, when i had my old 33 it use to make the same, even when i went to sell it the guy looking at it thought it was the disc brakes scraping or something lol he had no idea, does your mate have the stock bov? cause i noticed id get a flutter with a aftermarket bov an k&n pod as well.

Yeah apparently he has got the stock bov with pod filter and reckons he gets flutter, i agree that the bov must be modified for it to do that. Yeah wen i had an after market BOV i used to get it all the time.

So the high pitched ringing noise when the car is in vacuum is normal. thats a relief! the flutter wasnt my biggest concern, i just was curious that wen i heard that noise plus no flutter, i thought they were connected as my mate said otherwise.

So why does the turbo make that piercing sound wen in vacuum around -14 to 10 IN-Hg, its a weird thing!

cheers guys

Man everyone is saying stock bovs flutter??

HOW????????

mine sure doesnt?

Unless you have blocked something inside or tweaked it..

Suprised that some of you get flutter on stock bovs.. strange

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
