Just wanted a few opinions on whether its worth going the ebc route on my car...

s1 33 with hks gtrs and all the relevant supporting mods

currently i have a turbosmart bleed value with the stock turbo, and it tends to creep. Will a greedy profec b totally eliminate this, and will it spool any quicker?

the gtrs is going on in a few weeks and i really wanna know if its worth the extra coin to ebc it.

i have searched but i was hoping to get some replies of people with the same turbo and ebc

Check out the TURBOTECH one I was selling, and there is a link to a full write up on it.

Your best to get a good bleeder and are better off spending the money on something you really need.

There was a big discussion on this not long ago.

I remember GUILT TOY I think his name is was running about 20psi with a GT3540 on a TURBOTECH bleed valve with no creeps.

Run the boost controller off the cooler piping and off the turbo wastegate, bi-passing the standard solenoid.

Are you going after market ECU? If so get a boost controller kit for that particular ECU if you want to go EBC, otherwise don't bother.

You can just push a button and go too standard boost.

It would be difficult setting it back up too that exact setting.

Yeah the car has a pfc, fuel pump,injectors, fmic, z32 afm blah blah. Its setup for the turbo in every way, i just want it to hold the prosper boost without creeping. I'm sick of planting my foot and watching the boost guage like a hawk. I'd rather be giving my attention to the tacho.

also i'd like to run 2 boost settings as i dont want 850000000 pounds all day every day. Hence the duel stage bleed value i have now

at the moment the bleed value is not running off the cooler pipe, pm its either change that or ebc it.

is there any difference in spool time?

But I personally think a bleed valve can hold boost very well, depending on the type of bleed valve and how its intalled.

You can get different types of bleed valves which work in differnt ways.. some are good, other are shit. TURBOTECH has been proven by MANY to be good.

I will post up a intsallation link for installing a bleed valve into an R33.

If you want to run dual boost use a bleeder, or in my opinion if you REALLY want an EBC go to a PFC boost controller kit. That will do the job.

i was driving around all day long on 25psi 363rwkw for a few months and was doing around 1000 - 1500km's a week with the turbotech.

The only reason why i got a EBC (a old one that was given to me) was because the bolt and spring and ball bearing fell out on the road somehwere on the central coast when i was cruising around and i needed something to replace it.

Turbotech all the way. once you learn how to set them up they are great and deserve credit for what they are.

I have found they work better on big external wastegated turbo setups then they do with smaller turbo's :kiss:

the turbotech brings up boot much quicker then every other bleed valve setup i have seen.

I used to have 2 turbotech's... one set to 25psi and the other set to 14psi. I would just pop the bonnet take the low boost setting valve off and replace it with the high one. Can be done very quickly even when setting at a set of lights i was able to change it with plenty of time to spare :kiss:

Also consider that there is no need for you to turn the boost up, then down every time.

Run it on 1 boost setting as tuned and drive it off boost if need be!

If its tuned to 18psi, and you put it down to 7psi, it will run a bit shitty.

TURBOTECH - Very good value for money. I just sold my brand new one for $35!

Yeah thats how i have it at the moment, its 13 pounds or off. I have a rocket switch in cabbin...

mainly i want to know if my turbosmart will hold after i put it in the ic piping, and whether an ebc will boost faster

Which EBC you going with? I recommend a BLITZ or a PFC EBC kit :)

BLITZ's ones are so simple to setup, will only take a few minutes. Very easy to configure and adjust as well. The solenoids are a really good design and hold boost strong.

BLITZ DSBC SPEC R are a dual solenoid unit, could get one for about $300 2nd hand.

Otherwise a 2nd hand GREDDY PROFEC B II, about $250 off the forums. Also very easy to setup/adjust.

Manual boost controllers work MUCH MUCH better with ext gates than int gate turbo's.

A mates ext gate setup with my turbo tech was perfect held what ever we pushed in; bolted the same turbo tech on to my IW setup and it wouldn't hold any more than 17.5psi.

Invest in an adjustable actuator with the spring tension to suit your application and use the turbo-tech for fine adjustments. This combination will hold boost better than an EBC and standard actuator. This is the setup I have anyway and it works well (I now use an avc-r with an adjustable actuator does the same thing)

    • I thought I'd do a write up on an auto transmission fluid change for a the nissan 7 speed Automatic. At some stage the genius engineers decided that the fluid in the trans was "for the life of the transmission", (which seems kind of self supporting to me) and removed the dip stick and fill tube (funnily enough there is still a casting for it). Anyway, for this job you do need 2 specialist tools in addition to regular hand tools, jack and good chassis stands. You need a way to pump fluid up to the transmission; I got one of these but there are plenty of other options: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364584087070 Don't trust the generic listing though, it does not come with the required adapter for the Nissan 7 Speed. Could be Nissan, could be anything else rated for Nissan Matic S. You need at least 10 litres, I had 15 to give it a better flush...     • So I mentioned the apprentice, @LachyK helped take the bonnet off. We just undid the nuts on the hinges and unclipped the gas struts, then pulled the bonnet back a little as the front was catching on the front bar.  I had a good look at everything today and have removed the rams, repaired/reset the hinges and bolted it back together like it never happened. I'll do a separate write up on the repair, and I also removed the poppers from the Fuga today too to save grief down the road.....as said above it is at least $5k to repair retail. I'm also happier about my ability to prepare a race car, and less happy about Nis-nault's engineering (I can hear @GTSBoy sAfrican Americaning) because the top hose of the radiator didn't slip off.......it snapped clean off. By practice I put the hose clamp hard up against the flare on a neck to make it least likely to ever move (thanks @Neil!). I guess that puts a little more pressure on the end of the pipe as it is further away from the rad, but still, that is pretty shit. I've put it back on for now as there was a fair bit of neck still there, but obviously there is no lip on the neck any more so I don't think I'll track it again until I have a new rad. Speaking of which....more research required. It looks like Koyo makes a standard size radiator in ally which I'll grab in the meantime, but I really want something thicker so might have to go custom in the medium term (ouch) Coolant still needs a refill and I have the pressure tester on it over night, but other than a wash down of the engine bay it seems alright. And @MBS206 noted something noisy on the front of the engine and I think I agree....time for a new accessory belt and tensioners I think.

    • What are we supposed to be seeing in the photo of the steering angle sensor? The outer housing doesn't turn, right? All the action is on the inside. The real test here is whether or not your car has had the steering put back together by a butcher. When the steering is centred (and we're not caring about the wheel too much here, we're talking about the front wheels, parallel, facing front) then you should have an absolutely even number of turns from centre to left lock and centre to right lock. If there is any difference at all then perhaps the thing has been put back together wrongly, either the steering wheel put on one spline (or more!) off, and the alignment bodged to straighteb the wheel, or the opposite where something silly was done underneath and the wheel put back on crooked to compensate. Nut there isn't actually much evidence that you have such a problem anyway. It is something you can easily measure and test for to find out though. My money is still on the HICAS CU not driving the PS solenoid with the proper PWM signal required to lighten the load at lower speed. If it were me, I would be putting either a multimeter or oscilloscope onto the solenoid terminals and taking it for a drive, looking for the voltage to change. The PWM signal is 0v, 12V, 0V, 12v with ...obviously...modulated pulse width. You should see that as an average voltage somewhere between 0V and 12V, and it should vary with speed. An handheld oscilloscope would be the better tool for this, because they are definitely good enough but there's no telling if any cheap shit multimeter that people have lying around are good enough. You can also directly interfere with the solenoid. If you wire up a little voltage divider with variable resistor on it, and hook the PS solenoid direct to 12V through that, you can manually adjust the voltage to the solenoid and you should be able to make it go ligheter and heavier. If you cannot, then the problem is either the solenoid itself dead, or your description of the steering being "tight" (which I have just been assuming you mean "heavy") could be that you have a mechanical problem in the steering and there is heaps of resistance to movement.
    • Little update  I have shimmed the solenoid on the rack today following Keep it Reets video on YouTube. However my steering is still tight. I have this showing on Nisscan, my steering angle sensor was the closest to 0 degrees (I could get it to 0 degrees by small little tweaks, but the angle was way off centre? I can't figure this out for the life of me. I get no faults through Nisscan.
