After reading so many threads on indivduals embarking on restorations and Hybrid engine building projects to their pride and joy I can't help but notice how enthusatic alot of other passionate skyline owners become and are inspired by reading these threads.

Alot of skyline owners want to do this work to their cars, but generally lack the place, the tools or the right specialist equipment to do it.

I think this post is a waste a time and I think alot of people will end up "thread craping" it, esp because I think perth people "me included" are very very slow to adapt to new idea's or thoughts, esp something so left wing as this.

But my random passing thought was a garage or a industrial space ran by members for members "club house" for those who are truley passionate about their skylines and would love a place to met and fix their cars.

I mean bikies can do it:) I'm sure a boat load of Savvy Liner owners could.

Everyone has some form of contacts, knowledge, specialsed equipment etc etc if you pull it together it can become a complete resource centre.

Or run it like a company where you float shares in it "IPO" for the sole purpose of capital raising and run it aligned to a strict business plan and charter.

Anyways thought I would just see for the hell of it the respose it would get. But imagine a place where a 4 post hoist was avalible!!! can you imagine the amount of shitty ass time spent under a car that would save not to mention comfortablity factor.

hey guys im a real estate agent (please dont hate me :( ) and your best bet would be to find a rental property with a large shed out the back as it would probably cost between $300 - $500 p/w depending on what area you are looking for. other than that you would have to look for a rural propery maybe the back of byford way

even leasing a small workshop costs around $2000 a fortnight

50 members = $20 per week. looks cheaper than buying all own tools and what not. Possibly get sponsors to help?? dont know how haha just and idea :(

I have thought about this as well and think its a great idea if the right 'business plan' was put into action. I have a friend who part rents a workshop in bayswater with 4 other blokes who are into rallying and such. Its quite expensive but considering the tools available to everyone there and combined knowledge/resources i think its worth it.

Maybe have bays that can be rented on a monthly basis for people who are doing extensive work and other areas that people can drop by and do quick jobs.

also what happens when someone loses or misplaces a tool? or the hoist breaks. who would cough up the cash to fix it? what if someone was injured? would you be leaving cars there over night? would you have to fork out for insurance on all the tools and equipment? the list goes on and on

There would have to alot to be taken into consideration. As Mr Dan has kindly pointed out all the imediate pit falls there quite alot of positives.

I tend to look at things holistic, maybe my take on things are too positive, Or I have less at sake then SAUWA :( but at anycase everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Its by no means an easy feat. Of course anyone who is a member would sign a disclaimer for injuries and what not...

I guess it would be a long term project and extensive planning would be required.

touche` haha. roster or something? im sure some agreement could be made. even paying to use it? at obviously a fraction of the cost. maybe going towards bettering the workshop?

There is a difference between being negative and being realistic.

You have to address the objections first before you go ahead with any project :)

I do believe that there was a similar setup to your idea which was located in Malaga, across the road from Hyperdrive. Perhaps you could pm GTRKEN and ask him who was involved with that and then ask them how they over came the aforementioned issues.

Always a good idea, in theory. There's probably a few warehouses you could rent out in welshpool for like $800-1000month (20 members would be $50/month each)

I've thought about this a few times together with a few mates, however it always fails.

How about setting something like this up on a commercial basis? ie. you become a member of the workshop for $x/month with a 12month commitment, and you may schedule your workshop time accordingly and use the tools therein.

There's a huge trust issue I guess, I wouldn't want randoms rummaging through my car while its in a shared workshop, and losing/breaking MY tools.... see?

I see. Sounds like something completely different then :( I was referring to one which ran exactly the way you described in your original post. It must not be there anymore. Either way the wise thing to do would be to contact Ken and ask him a few questions as to how it was setup and if it is no longer operating, find out why.

Not really on talking terms with him. Also I think it would be a natural conflict of intrest, don't you think?:( .......

The last thing i want is thread to go in the wrong direction. All I want to know is if its remotely possible to do this.

Workshop for skyline owners by skyline owners. Simple as that...

    • So either way it is gearbox out and look what is wrong?  I know about the input shaft bearing. Even before swap/new clutch the it sounded exactly like this: So is that inout shaft bearing or the other was installed backwards?  And can some please tell me the part number for that input shaft bearing? The gearbox is small box from R34 N/A and number is FS5W71C. Thank you  
    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'  
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
