Hey Pete, ever thought of going standard pump as a pick up and a bosch 044 as a external pump with a surge tank?

Im thinking of doing something like this with my build. Should be more then enough fuel i should hope.

yeah but there you've got the inevitability of E85 and needing bigger injectors again like Joel said saturday might as well bite the bullet and get 1000's

yeah spoke to hime briefly on Sat about that.

He mentioned something about 800cc with twin sprays (not avail in 1000cc).

Don't think 400kw + E85 = 800cc unfortunately though

yeah I reckon you're right Luke.......to play it safe anyway

External Bosch is approx $250........have you checked out any decent surge tanks.........haven't really had the need to look into them until now.

ive never seen an rb20 set up like this

rb20det Engine variations:

The rb20det came in two different forms, the earlier red top with the NICS system and the newer silver top version with the ECCS system. The red top is the earlier version of the rb20det and came as standard with the r31 skyline, z32 fairlady and the nissan laurel, whilst the r32 skylines and nissan cefiro came with the silver top version.

Just to confuse you more there were a few red top rb20dets with the eccs system, heres some engine power outputs.

RB20DET red top

1986-1987: 178bhp (NICS version)

1988-1989: 190bhp (ECCS version)

RB20DET silver top

1989 onwards: 215bhp

never seen that setup on a 20 too..would give better response as the piping is significantly shorter however i reckon that cooler would be getting major heat soak as my 20 generates quite a bit of heat ontop of the cam/rocker cover

Im thinking maybe get AM performance to make one up. If your keen to get one, we might be able to get two cheaper.

I'll have a look on some Jap sites to see if anyone makes them over there.

ive never seen an rb20 set up like this :/

Z31 200ZR (basically the old school fairlady with povvo NICS Redtop RB20DET with top mount cooler)

Id rather poke myself in the eye with a rusty needle before driving another NICS RB20DET

as a mate of mine has in his msn name: NICS is japanese for FAIL

hey luke how much do hks 700cc (740cc??) usually go for????

just curious on the retail price compared to the price they gave me on them....

hey does the z32 afm have mesh on both sides? stupid question i know but just want to make sure before i buy.. im guessing it doesnt but not sure =/

yes they do im guessing your looking at a ebay job they normally tear off the mesh to clean the wire buyer beware :/

Craig, i had a Redtop NICS in my 31 a few years back

nothing but issues, and a poor breather of an engine (the fingers of the inlet runners are about half the size of a silvertop 20det runner...........not cool). i think i made a massive 76rwkw with a RB25 turbo strapped to it that was making 5psi LOL

oh yeah, and once i popped it and stripped it for parts to sell, this is all i had left

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
