spose i shall have my say in regards to the previous argument, re: discussions on the sa forum.

im going to direct the moderators to this; the WA wasteland.

im glad the moderators are more active in keeping the garbage out of the SA section, but one of the rather charming things about our humble little forum was the occasional random/non-car related thread, which we had a few of. so im thinking a dedicated wasteland sub forum like in WA would be good for us, sure its more work, but im sure someone would be more than happy to put their hand up to moderate the 'wasteland' sub forum, hell, id even raise my hand.

sure, we're all crazy car loving lunatics, but we do occasionally enjoy things that are non car related and want to share these thoughts with other SA members, but with the crackdown in the main section, none feel 'safe' to do this anymore.

(yes, my post is a little disjointed, i just finished work.)

Dave, like Dale & Ben, you also make a good point. As I said to Dale, it's something that you would have to put to Christian (Prank) and get his thoughts on it.

And yes, as you and Dale have stated, we would definitely need another couple of Mods........any suggestions as to who is capable of diplomacy yet not backward in using a stick when warranted?! :(

EDIT

Good for you. Do it. Do it your way. Too many people are scared to fail and will never be adventurous.

When I built my supercharged SR20DE 200B, I had everyone in the "industry" telling me it couldn't be done ... two fold: can't fit an SR20 in a 200B and can't supercharge it. I love proving people wrong. I drove that car around for 2 years before I sold it, as it was, registered and inspected with the SR20De superhcarged.

I got the same reaction when I built my CA18DET vg30BB powered 1600 wagon, 13B powered Bluebird, and T25 turboed CBR1000 drag bike. All 4 times, proven them wrong and been happy with doing it my way.

I came to the conclusion long ago that there are sheep out there with no idea ... they only want you to do things their way. f**k it ... do it your way.

:(

I nearly said something yesterday in Damo's defence (and I know that it's all said with a tongue in cheek manner) but I bit my lip.

If SAU had more members like him (and I'm coming purely from a Mod's perspective), this place would be alot more enjoyable and less stressfull for all of us.

9 times out of 10 he stays on topic (having said that, we all stray), he doesn't go out of his way to be a smartass or stir the hornet's nest (unlike a couple I could mention) and yet with his enormous post count I don't recall ever having the need to steer him straight over any issue. :(

if there was to be a "wasteland" or "wasteland-styled" sub forum, id be happy to moderate that section. The other sections are being well moderated at the moment.

I don't have high hopes for a wasteland sub forum, seeing as we were declined a for sale sub forum a while back.

Yeah cost most of his post whoring are in wasteland which doesnt need modding anyhow ;D

Dunno how u managed 3000 extra posts than me damo, esp since u joined a year after me lols...

but srsly he'd be a good mod for any wasteland forum.

cara just dont put the super charger on and then decide turbo after or ill kill you :( decide n live with it

sorry for those that have done it but i think its a bit lame buying a n/a car and putting a turbo on it when they have a turbo model, why modify it when you can go out and buy the same damn thing for prob cheaper & more often better. the only time i would accept a fake as being kinda cool is the shelby cobra kit car, because lets face it who the f can afford the real 1 and then have the balls to risk damaging it on the race track

^^ valid point and 1 i would reccomend aswell normally but i think cara more into being different than trying to shave seconds off lap times n bang for buck

Different yet f*cking so much more expensive for what you'll achieve with half the price if you ran a turbo. I'd sure hope Cara has deep wallets. It's like my mate, he want's to put a RB26 into a Supra and then make it have the GTR's 4WD system... and I said "Why?!" it's just so expensive.

But that's a whole other thread...

It just makes me think of all these people who have endless wallets who decide to go down the show car path, and modify the shit out the car (LCD's in the engine bay, etc) but to achieve what? A trophy? Play table tennis and you'll get a trophy.

i can get to organise a gokarting thingo damo

love organising these things

ummm i was thinking endurance style race or

we could do 2-3 lots of 12 driver grid individual races.....extreme gp is like 95 laps for $70

thats a individual style race..where you rack up points and winner gets a trohpy

so common people some advice!!!

Speaking of Go Karting, anyone been to Greenhills lately?

Yes I'm 21, but I only went there a few months ago lol.

The go karts there are beyond slow. You can walk faster than them. So me and my mates were just clipping each others tires and ramming into each other, because when they're that slow, why even bother racing?

We got kicked off pretty quickly.

Man, Greenhills used to be awesome with the BMX bikes and stuff. And then the big bad Insurance company came in.

And here's my "Holy Shit that's a pretty decent car that Uncle Daniel would love to have in his shed" links for the day:

A what?! http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/modul...hp?StockID=4727

Love the Cosmo: http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/modul...hp?StockID=4719

yeah i think have tohe go-kart format the same as the last one, 2 drivers per car endurance race, changing every 15 or so laps or whatever it was.

Ok then i will get to organising it

i will try and work out a good little deal for us all...

and just a word of caution it will be organised at richmond kartmania

and the boys dont like when people are crashing and bashing their karts...

if you are deliberatly seen doing that they will kick you off their karts

    • Yep, totally get that. However hooking in for Generator back up is only a few hundred bucks for the wiring. You could put a couple of those in (for different circuits explicitly) and run a couple of baby generators. Bonus, you can balance them across different circuits, and now have backups in your backup. I'm looking at buying places that won't even have water etc, and I don't mind the idea of getting off the electric grid either, even with everything you've said. This country already has enough power outages that even the mains grid isn't that reliable anymore. I do agree though on spending a bit more to get better gear, and to add some extra redundancy in to the system too.
    • You can set hard reserves on your battery system, and it can't be discharged past that.
    • That sounds like an excellent idea. But total self-sufficiency means exactly that. You have no-one else to blame when your system faults out and you have no power for a week or two while it gets fixed. You'd have to go the whole hog and get a diesel genny and all the switchover gear, to get you through such times. And, despite the fact that over 20 years, my system has been pretty reliable**, I have seen so many inverter explosions (or less dramatic deaths), panel and roof JB fires, and so on, over that time, to know that the stuff is the same as any other bulk Chinese manufactured stuff. The failure rate is well above zero - both on the equipment and on behalf of the meth addled installation labour force. And then..... warranty and means of redress against the supplier you bought the gear from. Best I can tell is that only a handful of solar companies are still around within 5 years of starting their advertising pitch. They disappear and phoenix like crazy. So, as per 1st paragraph, I suspect the only way to is go balls deep and spend maybe 2-3 times as much as you might think, so that you have every base covered. Plus, know and understand your gear intimately, so you can diagnose problems, sort them out yourself, etc, etc. Plus, probably have to consider upgrading various parts as the years pass, to maintain compatibility with newer stuff, performance and reliability, etc, etc. Whereas, remaining attached to the grid has an ongoing cost that keeps going up even if you use bugger all power from it. But it does provide the fallback in case of the worst case with your own gear. You either pay up front or as you go, I suspect.
    • Add more solar panels to the array. Call the electricity company and tell them you're moving out... Live off grid electric wise
