Hey chaps.

Just need a bit of help, I've been out of the loop for years as my interest in Japanese cars has increased greatly, but my sister drives an E46 320i BMW. She wants to throw on some new brakes and 18' rims, she is also interesting in getting it chipped and maybe a full exhaust system (pricey yes, but I think she's pretty willing). All I'm ask if anyone here knows of websites that deal with performance cars for kraut vehicles, I USED to remember a few sites but I've long forgotten them, I'm going to check on google, but some suggestions would be really helpful!

Thanks!

Nah in Perth buddy...

She is a sedan addict like me, so M3 is a bit of a nono, plus for her, it would be too much grunt, and she won't drive manuals..

I've been talking to her about getting a 325, I said that the motor is a slight improvement, as the 2.2 litre revs nice, but is gutless as f***, surely exhuast, chip and wheels/tyres would cost 15k, even for a beemer aye...

This is starting to sound pathetic... :):P

Anyone know of workshops/dealers/performace places that deal with German cars???

I've just been disinterested in beemers for a while now... Trying to re-jig the memory...

dude you could spend 15k just on the brakes alone depending how crazy you want to go. All I was saying is spending that amount of coin on a 320 is not sound advice

How "serious" is she about it? Show, or go?

When it comes to European cars, the sky's the limit. If she wants to stick to Euro brands, I'd suggest searching for:

Bilstein Suspension

Remus exhaust

Brembo brakes

BBS wheels

Your BMW 320i E46 2.2 contains the latest technology ECU that can be re-programmed through the on-board diagnostic port (OBD-II). Specialised software interfaces with your vehicle`s engine management system to extract the electronic code via serial download. Once the information has been read, Powerchip technicians apply the performance changes and upload the performance program back through the OBD-II port. Installation can be performed by the end user with the serial programming kit or by any Authorized Powerchip Installation Center and takes approximately 2 hour's to complete.

In standard form, the 320i E46 2.2 produces 125 kW and 210 Nm.

Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 135 kW and 136 kW, and it's torque to between 224 Nm and 226 Nm.

The price of the Powerchip is AUD $1,290.00.

In order for us to give you specific power improvements and pricing information, please continue on to the next page. By providing your email address, we will email you a comprehensive ten page datasheet specific to your car.

now the only choice is do you spend the extra cash to go the 136 kw over the 135? :P

Oh dear...

:b

I was going to get powerchip for my VL Berlina... Then I realised that I should "STFU". Spending money on an auto non-turbo VL Berlina is like throwing money into a blast furnace...

Still, to they even make full ecu's, or even piggy backs to work with such vehicles?? I can't imagine German tech being cheap?

Budget is 5 - 10k, but her being her, she'll probably buy a few dozen pairs of shoes between now and then, and that said budget will inevitably diminish...

I heard H&R springs are quick good, in fact I have a pamphlet for H&R, mentioning that they specialise with Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen, my Uncle had Koni on his E30 323 and it handled like a gem..

I dont know your sister but it seems like she may be the type of driver that will not find the limits of even the factory suspension. So I wouldnt spend cash there.

She sounds very much like my other half. My advice is to get a nice looking set of wheels and then an exhaust system that has a more grunty note than factory.

Tell her the bigger wheels have given her 34% more grip and the exhaust has given her 38.6kw.

Get the job done and when you come back to give her the car pull up in the garage where its more of an echo and give the throttle a few nice blips and she will grin from ear to ear lmao..

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
