I wasn't saying he was going to drive like an insane bastard just because he's a P plater.

I was saying he was going to drive like an insane bastard because he clearly doesn't care about obeying the requirements that come with holding a license. He doesn't give a f**k about buying a car he's legally allowed to drive, why will he give a f**k about dangerous driving, speeding, or any other safety-related things?

Driving around on a car that you've got no insurance on is uncalled for. Being young and only buying a 2WD Skyline, chances are he's not going to be loaded enough to replace someone else's car or pay their medical bills out of pocket when he crashes.

:w00t: alright fair enough u had me at "f**k" LOL

why has no one mentioned the possibility of gaining an exception to the prohibited vehicle law? the obvious way out is to register the car in the name of a legal driver ie: your dad. and then claiming its the family car and you have no choice but to drive it! there is even an exception form you can download on the rta website.

the prohibited vehicle law is an absolute joke. why?

a) you dont need a turbo or a v8 to drive dangerously

b) its a denial of a basic human right to have a nice car

c) people who have no regard for speed limits will also have no regard for prohibited vehicle laws.

has this law made a difference to the road toll? methinks not.

the only problem you have is insurance. because if you crash its all over.

ive only ever been pulled over in my skyline for 220+ on the fwy, and when i did a "burnout" which the cops didnt even see. needless to say i got off both, the 220+ incident wasnt on radar. i also got away with not displaying p plates back in the day when i was driving mums car. the system is a joke.

where are you guys driving when you get defected and stuff? ive never even been pulled over for an rbt...

Ok,

Admitting doing 220+ here is bloody stupid. Obviously you are one of the people who have no respect for the law either. You are just as bad as the people driving on banned vehicles.

Yes, There are ways around the banned vehicles list, is it that easy to get that past them?

Dont know.

Yes, in any car you can drive like a tool bag, speed, etc etc however you have just proved by your post saying...

"c) people who have no regard for speed limits will also have no regard for prohibited vehicle laws."

So you have put yourself in that group of moron drivers.

The only problem is if you have insurance...

Obviously you wouldbe driving illegally so either way you a screwed.

Seriously,

Thats the law, get used to it.

You cannot shop lift right?

Thats the law also...so how is driving or trying to get away with driving banned vehicle ok?

I'll say one last thing on this topic, and I agree with Alan - scathing - I hope you do not hit anyone and injure them, as you'll be ass reamed for a very long time after.

Time for this thread to be locked me thinks?

Application for Exception Form - CLICK ME NOW CLICK ME NOW OR NEVER EVER AGAIN

Exemptions from the conditions

Application for an exemption can be made at any motor registry upon payment of a fee. See related link to Licensing fees (above right). You must have an exemption in writing issued by the RTA to be exempt from the conditions.

Should an exemption be granted, the exemption will be limited to specific circumstances such as employment and maybe limited to certain vehicles. There is no blanket exemption.

You are let off because there are varying range of police officers out there. Sometimes you will catch them on a good day, some days you wont. It's just luck, but I wouldn't wanna drive and be stuck in the situation of driving a restricted car. Hell, selling drugs is prohibited yet people still do it. :D

I heard that if your family has ANY other vehicle that isn't turboed or a v8 they deny the exemption, no matter what the reason.

My dad has a GTST, but he also has a cressida and a hilux ute, so I'd get denied straight away because those cars are available to me.

for a start, i would suggest that 220+ is a lot worse, not just as bad as, driving a prohibited vehicle, which is a victimless crime. the act of driving a turbocharged car does not directly endanger anyone. but then again, neither does 220+ at 3am when theres no one in sight. shoplifting is totally different as it directly affects a victim/s, whereas speeding etc only has the potential to do that.

im not really as bad a person as you make out. you cant tell me that the majority of skyline owners have never speedtested their cars. i would bet that you yourself have exceeded 160 at least once in your time. if you havent, i admire your self-control. at least i chose to do it at a (relatively) safe time and location. and it was a one-off. i totally agree thats its foolish and could have disastrous consequences, but i believe much more dangerous acts would include weaving and talking on a phone while doing so (which seems socially acceptable), and drink driving. incidentally, i do neither of these things. ever.

laws such as the prohibited vehicle rubbish are just knee-jerk reactions from the nsw gov to make it appear as though they are doing something about "hoons". when the reality is some young men have always and will always feel the urge to drive maniacally and nothing short of mass castration can be done to prevent it. its just unfortunate that it can destroy their lives and the lives of others.

and i should know, 7 people have died on my street in the last 3 years.

Indeed..

People are always going to whinge about giving skyline's a bad name.

To the average joe we look like hoons 90% of the time even if we're just cruising.

That comes with the import/car scene in general and it will always be there..

The main reason people get iffy about stories, whether they're short or small about speeding etc is because SAU has a mature reputation amongst the car community and people would like to see that positive image of our forums grow. Any little snippets where people start talking about dragging cars off the lights ( even to the speed limit) starts to eat into SAU again..

So by all means PM and talk in real life to your mates etc about what you do but try to leave it off the forums..

That or give us a section with no rules/moderators etc that needs a varying password to gain access to and you can only get access to it via speaking directly with some executive of SAU where anything goes..

Or not lol :)

Oh and I'm still not sure whether I'll buy a turbo car under these restrictions.. Yes it is the law, but it's a piss poor job of managing to death toll. There has been more deaths since the introduction of these laws..

Ok,

where do I begin?

As I said, posting that you have done 220 + on forums, esp a club forum is not good. We do not like that here on club forums, simple. It gives the rest of us members who do the right thing a bad name - sum that up - dont talk about it on public club forums.

And yes, you are right about talking on phones whilist driving, drink driving, people who shouldnt even have a licence are just as bad and happen alot more.

Just today, car next to me (Im in middle lane, him in left) went to grab something from the passenger seat, what does he do? Not concentrating and straight into my lane. I hit brakes and horn and he gives me a death stare as though it was my fault!!!

My comments about shop lifting and driving a prohibited vehicle are stating that both are the law, you,me, everyone needs to obey them, simple.

I have mixed feelings over the p plate law, I do feel sorry for the kids who do the right thing (who have been involved in motorsport/karts before they could legally drive) however again, its the law, everyones got to get used to it.

because SAU has a mature reputation amongst the car community

Does it?

This is the only forum I'm on (and I'm on a few) that gets "school holiday shit stirrers", or lots of people talking about how they did XYZ on public roads.

That said, I'm not on ns.com.

yeah i see what youre getting at. it is in no ones interests to highlight the already bad rep that skylines and imports have in general. we certainly dont need the pol pol setting up more defect stations.

im still fairly new to this whole forum thing, so pardon me just this once haha. i find skyline fans fascinating though. theres the whole spectrum ranging from hardcore street racers to R31 drivers...

commonwhore drivers are the worst imo.

if you took off from the lights but only went up to the speed limit, is that street racing? ive heard there is some bizarre law about "unnecessary show of speed" or some crap.

Its not bizarre. A "race" is, by definition, a contest. The speed and acceleration you achieve is irrelevant.

If two of you take off.....that's a contest. Do it on a public road, and you just perfectly fit the description of a "street race".

If you're by yourself and you punch it at a set of lights to the speed limit, you're probably less likely to get done...but there's probably another road rule they can get you for.

    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all). This video was pretty good (skipped a few steps), unfortunately they are an Aussie seller but no longer sell this unit (I guess Carplay/AA adapters are easier to install and much cheaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5hJfYOB8Dg
    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
