Whats the best way to polish a dished wheel? Ive got some Rays wheels that i want to paint the centres black and polish the lip, ive started using 1200 grit and brasso in a small section on the dish and its coming up smooth, but dull... how do i get the shine?

anyone recommend what sort of prep needs to be done for the wheel centres also?

cheers

i had my 4 stockies, sand blasted and powder coated for $180 the lot. about 45 per rim. in a pearl white. if u just getting centres done might work out cheaper.

with polishing, get a metal polish and use that. dont fuss to much with sand paper unless there are scratches all over the dish.

hey mate i just did the four of mine.they looked shit house and now there unreal.

1.clean rims.

2.wet&dry sandpaper 1000 until smooth

3.wet&dry sandpaper 2000 which takes away some of the lines that the 1000 left.

4.clean rims and use autosol and elbow grease your way to pretty good looking dish

doing just centre would cost you more, since there is more work involved in masking up the lips, then blasting then remasking them for the application of powder

simon-r32 - looks good mate

is there a place i can take my rims to.. to do something like that?/ repaint the center and polish the dish again as mine looks really.. dirty

and i wouldn't have a clue of how to do it myself...

in vic as well..

just curious as to the difficulty of it, my Works use a bolt head that i havent seen as a bolt head before.

wasnt an Allen key or Hex head was it? Most are like this.

Its easy enough to pull them appart, most rims have a sealant (3 piece ones anyway) in the middle, and also when re assembling they need to go back the same as you pulled them apart to keep the balance of the rims the same.

    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
