Hi,

I have a big issue with my gearbox atm in my r33. I am unable to select any gears when the car is running, i have the clutch flat to the floor and try to get it to go into any gear and it just screams and wont go in, its feels like the clutch is not engaging when i push it down.

The clutch is about 3months old, so i know its not that. All i can see is that when i press the clutch the clutch master cylinder gets alot of flex, as does the bracket which holds the clutch pedal in the cabin.

does anyone have any idea of what the problem could be?

Cheers Michael

What type of clutch is it? i just picked up a gtst with a big brand name HD clutch in it and it fails to disengage. apparently after consulting several clutch builders this is a commun problem. They work on some but not all cars.

It screams and wont go in? Meaning its grinding when you try to enter into gear?

Or is it sort of like its stuck in neutral?

atm it now won't even go into gear at all or makes any sound...

basically clutch flat to the floor (with the car running), i try to select a gear and it will go about half way into the gear (maybe only a 1/4) and wont go any further doesnt make any sound.. just wont go in

Hmm, thats different to my situation where it just wouldnt go into reverse no matter what situation it was. It would just get stuck 1/4 of the way in even when the car was off/on and clutch in/out. It was a problem with one of the forks getting sort of dislocated, getting jammed and not letting me get into gear.

But for yours I doubt its a gearbox problem.

thanks for that Yawn, i am heading towards a failure of the clutch... as i have heard of the same brand/type of clutch failing before... 2morrow i go see the workshop which bought and install the clutch for me and see if they can be any help

hi michael, did you end up finding out what the problem is?

i've got the same thing after a launch, couldn't select any gear when the car is running not even 1/4 way in.

when the car isn't running i can select any gear no probs. cheers

hey,

i ended up pulling out the clutch to find out that a selection of the clutch plate had snaped off out a 5-10mm selection  so just ended up replacing it with a twin plate and i have zero problems now

an easy quick test to c if it the clutch etc

when not running put it in gear, push clutch down then push the car forward, raise the clutch if it stops the car then its in gear, so u know the mechanism is working, which means its in the clutch its self

    • Old Son, did you re-use the Holden ABS in the new shell or try a different module?
    • Yeah, nah. I had the actuator rod off it today. The arm will not move at all. Neither out, nor in. Yeah, you'd think so, but I've been thinking about that. Even when the actuator rod fell all the way off at the beginning of this saga, it would build more boost and faster in lower gears than it would in higher gears, and you'd think that that was the opposite of what should happen. But I strongly suspect that there is a thing with the gearing getting the revs to rise faster, that there must be some transient effect with the gas flow rate rising quickly, that you don't get with the more steady state case of the higher gears. Keep in mind - the gate is not shut in either of my weirdnesses. So things are not "normal". We normally think about a turbo spooling up (below the wastegate target) with the gate shut. I have all sorts of mental models running now where the gate is a little bit open, and having it stuck open allowing gas out while it should be going through the turbine has all sorts of weird effects (in these mental models). I'm thinking in the higher gears, the ex mani pressure builds to the point where enough gases spill out the wastegate to just prevent the pressure rising much more at all, or just creeping up, all the whole the revs are increasing and getting closer to the point where a gear shift becomes necessary.
    • Is it possibly wastegate actuator itself is sticking, or even the rod to flapper? Otherwise I reckon things are getting a bit rusty/worn   Also odd it won't boost in 3rd to 5th, but will in 1st, I'd expect the other way around with it slightly open as there's more time on your way to redline for it to spin up
    • Does anyone know ow what these two plugs are for and if they should be unplugged? Just put the dash back together and can't remember if these were plugged in before or unplugged! (Blue and white plugs) 🤦🏽‍♂️
    • Did some FASTing ...got the impression that the actual part# was a moot point ; seems all of these hardlines for coolant are discontinued/NLA... like, I take it you're after the hardline that bolts onto to the manifold...that's NLA according to amayama & nengun .... ...just to clear up some confusion, they typically mounted the AAC valve to the intake manifold somewhere near a coolant passage, so the body of the valve heats up & holds it open when engine's up to temp - no coolant flows through the valve, it's a mechanical, thermal connection.
