Well my tyres got a great endorsment from a driving instructor at the skid pan last weekend. I have 275x30x19 hankook silica tyres at the back and even the instructor was having a VERY hard time keeping the car sideways on an oiled and wet track. He was very impressed with the grip, and i was impressed with his comment :).

If you ever come to an event we can do this :)

You will be on my turf on Thursday nite:P

Maybe we could get together.. though i have my dad's b'day dinner to go to. I might also be taking a sicky on Friday, but would be good to compare cars. Let me know.

Sorry Daz for jacking thread.

I had Bridgestone Potenza's on my Type-R and they did a great job, comes standard also on the s15 and wrx.

Cheers.

I highly recommend eithe the Falcan Azinis ST115 or the Bridgestone RE540 semicomps for grip. FM901s are also an awesome tyre.

I currently have the ST115s on my GTR and they hold really well. Also, they helped take my car to a 11.58@124MPH at Calder Park with a slipping clutch so the grip isn't a problem.

Nittos are excellent tyres for what they are designed for. Ie. A streetable drag tyre. Although not legal in AU, a cop wouldn't be able to tell as it has a good tread on it. The only thing which differentiates them from legal street tyres are the softer sidewall (excellent for dragging) and very soft tread (softer than semicomps). They are good for about 12,000 kms on the road and about 5,000 strip kms. Don't bother with them on the circuit though, the lateral rigidity is way too soft.

As for the wet, Nittos' won't go anywhere and you will do nothing but kill yourself as the tread is simply designed for dry, straight conditions.

    • Wow ELVIS. You have an....interesting approach to conversation. Did you not notice that I wasn't talking to you?
    • Hello Liam - HA - somewhere in flies - possibly I have an update, but I have been so busy, projects have taken a back seat to getting business back on track.  I will let you know the outcome, but I think I am going to go for the 8HP,  CHEERS.  ELVIS
    • Thanks Joshuaho96, yes - as someone else also suggested, the 8HP seems the 'smart choice' - HA - and ZERO to do with cost, but I am sure 8 speeds will be better than 6 speeds - HA - maybe.  I will purchase a new 8HP,  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Nobody said anything about getting a "...cheap Falcon box..."- it was JUST a question about a specific transmission.  And YOU may have a problem with not enough $ - HA - I do NOT - so please keep your comments like you are some financial guru to yourself.  BUT - much appreciated re the cost of a new 8HP and I twill probably be the way I go.  Thanks.  ELVIS.
    • Most people I know in the BMW world are swapping 6HPs for 8HPs. The 6HP has a big issue with one of the clutch drum bushings wearing out shockingly early which leads to them going into limp mode going into 5th/6th gear as the oil pressure loss from the worn bushing causes clutch slip. Even with the adaptations in shifting the TCU can't bump line pressure enough to keep the clutches from slipping and burning. I've personally looked at a 335d with 6HP28 with one owner and ~90k miles on it and the transmission adaptations were way out of spec and even though it nominally drove ok I'm confident it would have needed a full rebuild sooner than later. Other than that they're fine, but the 8HP doesn't really have weird issues like this to my knowledge and they're in everything these days so pulling them out of crashed cars isn't too hard.
