Has anyone else noticed there is currently alot of Shell servos around Brisbane that have no Optimax at the moment? It has been like this for at least a week, maybe more. I talked to one of the attendants and he seemed to think there was some sort of shortage and that there wouldn't be any meaningful deliveries for a little while yet. A couple of servos were getting special deliveries from NSW but that was it. Can anyone shed any more light on this? Its BP Ultimate for me in the mean time.

optimax is no where as good as BP ultimate .... we only have optimax up here. BP fuels are a lot clean (according to a review i read once) and are not as "dry" (what ever the hell that means) as shell ....... I have only tried BP ultimate once and my car seem to run a lot better. i'm not sure why but it jsut felt to run better.

I honestly can't tell the difference between Optimax or Ultimate, I just have a little thing against BP as I know a couple of Chem. Engineers who have worked for them and I will leave it at that. Nothing wrong with the fuel BP supplies just I don't agree with a few of there other activities, its probably the same for Shell but I don't know about it. I have used Caltex Vortex before as an emergency, running low on my way to Sydney in the middle of nowhere, but fuel economy noticeably went down and I would be concerned with detonation being only 95-96 RON, compared with 98 RON Optimax, Ultimate. Considering these cars would really like to be on 100 RON fuel, I will stick with Optimax, Ultimate.

Why so many against Optimax?

Guest Boxhead

even tho this thread has been covered many times, ill re write basically to my understanding what i have heard...

optimax apparently dies quicker then ultimate as in if you dont use it in a week then it will be crap... or something similar not sure exact time...

i have heard optimax is ultimate from bp but a couple of other added crap in it...

but the main reason why i use it is because i have heard many people tell you you will get better fuel economy, better power etc if you use one constant fuel. and we all know there different, but also you should try and get the same fuel from the same petrol station as they can differ station from station, and BP is closer to me so its easier.

    • I was just driving into work and while on my drive, I went to accelerate and noticed the car would sputter/hesitate and I’d hear a few pops from the exhaust before it started going faster. Then I also noticed that when I push my clutch in, the car would die. This all started happening today. Any ideas?
    • That is a lovely Volvo, just saying. Yes I should have got an 260RS when they were cheap. I do regret now.
    • ^ lots of good points made above. The thing is, "aggressive" or "flush" fitment is relative depending on how much you have been influenced by social media. My starting point is always "look at the Nismo RWD specs". That is where you should start, then start measuring as GTSBoy as sort of mentioned, because every car will be slightly different. My 8.5"+35/9.5+38 will not be "flush" enough for you because you want more "pumped" look, which is why you measure. Tyre sizes and brand/models also make a difference. Some tyres are more chunky/square, some are more rounded. That means you could get away with more aggressive offsets without rubbing. But then it also depends on your ride height. Also depends on how much your car copped damage before being shipped from Japan. So it goes back to measuring your car yourself and determining what can work. Those Nismo specs are used bacause it's a safe spec for standard car (suspension. body) with chunky tyres. But then I put 265/35 wide tyres on R34 GT-R wheels, and currently run 285/30 tyres on 18x10 wheels.
