hi, had my car parked at work the other day and went to the shop and come back to park in the same spot and noticed coolant on the ground. looked in the engine bay and discovered cooland dripping from a lenght of piping coming from the back of the motor.

looking at it it looks to me as it has been blocked off because i cant find the other end to it and its just leaking.

i havent yet gotten under the car for a look yet but i tryed to look at someone elses car but they have a turbo heat sheild and i cant see.

can anyone tell me if there car has this pipe blocked off or if it continues to go somewhere and i just cant see it.

sorry about the pics as the turbo and dump pipe is in the way.

yellow - arrow marks the piping and the piece off hose which i suspect has a bit of steel blocking it.

red - marks where it could be broken

cheers 4drftn

That will be the coolant line to/from the turbo. Regardless if its in use anymore, at a guess the hose is prolly just perished and leaking. Replace the hose. Look for the highest point where u can see coolant and thats where it will be coming from.

oh ok. i probably should have stated my car is an r33 GTS-T (RB25) and it has a different turbo (KKR). so maybe like you said it probably isnt used anymore. Im guessing the stock turbos had this coolant line directly feeding into stock turbo.

Yeah. Would be strange if its not used anymore as the new turbo will still need coolant being flowed to and from it. Unless there is a braided line fitted or something. Generally the core has oil flowing through from top to bottom and coolant flowing through from one side to the other IE: horizontally through the core. They are normally fitted to the core with banjo/eye bolt fittings. I havent worked directly on the turbos fitted to RB25's, only on other areas so im not completely familiar with how they are plumbed. Anyway none of that really matters. My suggestion is to gain access to the source of the leak and find out whats needed to stop it. You may be able to use a small mirror to see it better.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
