If the sump is similar to that of an RB26DETT no it won't just bolt straight on as the RB26DETT sump is a bit wider on the drivers side and has a number of 8mm bolts on this side to compensate for the weight of the front diff, it can be made to fit the RB30 block but there is a bit of work in doing this.

cheers

if you look at the bottom of an rb20 block in a GTS4, it has 2 complete sets of bolt holes for the 2 different sumps. The 4wd sump bolts up to the outer set of holes using 8mm bolts, whereas the 2wd sump bolts up to the inner set of bolts using 6mm bolts. There are also different oil pickups between the 2wd and 4wd models, although this would be easier to fix if you're going from 2wd (rb30) to 4wd, than it was for me to go the other way (i'm using a GTS4 rb20 in a rwd configuration, and it was a complete pain in the arse, despite the assurances of the import wrecker)

Keep the thread going ppls.

Interesting read Belly_up! :D

So what your saying is you could make an adaptor plate that is similiar to that of say a turbo flange adaptor plate.

You would then have to look at extending the oil pick up slightly to accomodate for the height of the adaptor plate.

It would also make lowering the engine slightly difficult??? Due to the 4wd gear.

This would require one to use a RB26 head or a custom plenum on the rb25 head as to prevent bonnet fouling issues.

I would seriously look at a rb26 head.

Has the injectors to make some decent power, slightly better cams, solid followers(higher .050" lift), and it will work perfectly with the RB20DET's wiring loom and ecu(powerfc) providing you wire in the injector resistor pack from a GTR/300ZX.

Any one have pics of the RB20DET GTS4 or GTR sump and block bolt up pattern?

Cubes: That was my next question. We definatly need some photos of the patterns here. Has anyone seen the RIPS adapter plate? And did he use a custom plenum on the 25 head does anyone know?

Really i would love to start work on an RB30DET but have to clear up the issues with the sump mounting and possible clearance issues the adapter plate could cause with the sump fouling on something.

It's for an R32 GTS4 btw.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
