Basically I am about to take my R33 form 231rwkw to around 300rwkw. My question is how much power can the stock box and drivetrain take before things go bump in the night. I already have a heavy duty clutch that apparently will take 300. Any input would be much appreciated.

There is no solid answer.

It will depend mostly on the current health of your box, and what you use the car for.

But 300rwkw for street duties if your box is in ok condition should not be a problem.

think of it this way. JET200 uses a rb25 box and pushes about 315kw.

and has a r33 diff. it worked well man. but why not just plop in a 1.5 or 2 way for insurance.

Thanks for the advice. I figured as much but thought i'd be sure. The car is only 89000 on the clock & the box still feels strong. I do need to get a service on it as i can feel the syncro's when i shift into second. I think i might see how much it would be to get it strengthened while it's out of the car.

Man I'm shitting myself with the amount of $$ i'm starting to clock up on this puppy. Oh well you only live once right. At least she will be a mad setup when its completed!

Cheers

369rwkw i ran @ the drags through my 33 box. no problems... but then i didn't have much traction which is also a factor

Wholy shit! what does she run? have to be 10's yeah. Awesome Nismoid. You freak. lol.

I am not looking to push the envolope that far. Be happy with 300rwkw on streets! I'm just in the process of talking to a mob called Custom cars to finish off all the work.

I'm getting

Tein Coil over

Slotted rotors

Oil cooler

Oil filter relocation

Apexi Power FC boost controler

HKS 740 injectors

Plenum

Exaust manifold

Throttle body

Alloy radiator

Bigger cooler with custom pipeing

Not to mention the container of Carbon we have coming from China. Sweeeeet.

You know of any good shops in S.E Melbourne who are reasonably priced????

Thanks for the advice anyway Nismoid. You obviosly know your shit.

Driveshafts will break long before the diff centre. The VL boys are running 9.50's with a stock R33 5-speed and single plate Jim Berry clutch now so your power expectations should be nothing to be concerned about.

They are smashing third gear eventually though, it all depends how hard you thrash it. 300rwKw will not be an issue and if you want a cheap way out with the rear end throw in a GT-R diff + larger shafts.

Cheers mate.

I thought i'd have a look at the oil in the box anyhow and f*ck me. I'm going to have to strat looking for a new box soon. Heaps of metal fileings and even a couple of little like clips. 4 of them. That would explain the crunch i get into 3rd & 4th on full boost. Man I hate this crap that comes and bites you in the ass.

Considering your Melb... some of your mods will get pretty nasty if you get EPA'd... going to cost you a LOT of money (many thousands) to get it passed.

There might be a smarter approach (tha potentially will save money/hassle)

That said, go visit RE Customs (Springvale), they have been doing great work and are probably the closest off the top of my head.

Here's a tip...... they're never complete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am doing my best to keep it all looking stock as possible. Well excluding the carbon mods. It is a bitch of a thing. The good thing is I'm in the Army reserves and My ID normaly gets me out of those sticky situations. lol. Another good thing is I do know of a dodgy russian workshop that'll pass anything within reason of course for $150. lol. Sh!t how do you think I got her on the road in the first place. lol.

Cheers heaps for your advice.

Currently I am having an absolute nightmare with my sound install. It's 5 days since the guy said it would be done. I went in last night and lost the plot. He was like what do you think of the boot. I said SHIT how the F*ck am I supposed to show this. Ahhhhhhhhhh. I wish I just paid the full amount and got a well known mob to do it.

Lesson learned there.

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
