Is The Mining Boom Making You Fly To Remote Places?

Recommended Posts

Pannawonica (200ks south of Karratha) & about 50ks south of Fitzroy Crossing are 2 places that spring to mind :) Not any more though because I got back into my trade where soon I will be earning similar money anyway

I live in karratha so im conastntly around red dirt, red rocks the green trees get red dust on them and then they look red, same with the grass and anything else. . . haha Its not as bad as everyone says. . .once you know people it can be an awesome place but there still isnt that much to do

Haha. Looks like there are a few people up in the northern parts. Where I am, food is ok, and people are pretty good. Just got to get used to the hot days now

I'm a Mechatronic Engineer. At the moment, the project I'm working on is the commsioning of the biggest iron ore robotic laboratory in the world. It's pretty cool, but I don't like being in the middle of noware. I'm back in Perth now ;) for the moment.

That's cool Ryan.. do they pay their drafties well? need another drafty? sounds a lot more interesting than conceptual mine/stockyard/port layouts.. probably doesn't pay as well though O_o

I had a lot more fun working for the automotive R&D company but the money just didn't compare with mining/resources.

lol, not sure what they pay the drafties. Don't know if they're looking for another one. Haven't heard anything at the moment anyway. If you like, you can have a look at their web site and get an idea of what they do. No harm in dropping in a CV if you're keen.

The web site is www.imp.co.za They haven't got the full Australian site up an running yet, so this one will be more informative.

whim creek

its nearly the middle of no where, its 100ish km north of karratha, and 100ish south of headland, and 70km north of roe burn..

it gets boring being there for two weeks non stop as theres SFA to do, theres a pub, and a gym, thats all

Damn! Newman in the summer..and in a tent. Hard core. Mind you I have to get a searched by armed guards when I go outside the wire. I screw with them though " yes i have some gold secreted about my person - I dare your to find it" ...I guess it's what your used to

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
