Rubber Castor Bushes? Not Urethane

Hey guys,

Replaced my stuffed original castor bushes with whiteline items about 8 months ago hoping they'd be a nice replacement, instead they're very harsh and send vibrations through the steering wheel so I want just get it back to the standard feel.

Does anyone know where to get standard rubber bushes? I think I saw a trader or eBay was selling them at some stage but can't seem to find them now.

That is not at all normal, are you sure it's the bushes?

Yep, bushes were the only things I changed at that time and thats when I noticed it. Think it's mainly due to all the rubbish roads around me, when I'm driving on decent roads it's fine. I didn't really elaborate well in my first post, it's not constantly vibrating it's more of a jolt when when I hit a rough piece of road etc.

Normally when you add caster, you find that the bump impact is somewhat reduced as the shocks are inclinded forward (at the wheel). Perhaps it's the alignment rather than the bushes themselves.

Agreed. There was not noticable increase in harshness from going to aftermarket bushes on any car I've done it to.

Get it to a suspension place, up on the hoist and checked out. Pretty sure you will find something else wrong

I quite like the feel urethane bushes up front and urethane subframe bushes have given the car.

Its a nice solid, sharp, direct sporty feel. Just like a sport car should. Not boaty with no feedback. :(

Maybe I'm not one to comment as I love the harsh motor thump feel of the old camy v8 SLR's and old school fords. Nothing quite like the rawness. (even though they are generally slow) :banana:

Could be an alignment issue, after all I did put them in myself. I'll have to read into it a bit more.

Anyways, probably won't buy them now but these are the bushes I meant here They don't look too bad for the price.

is it just bumpy or you getting bump steer...?

I've put project d castor bushes in they are fine and another r33 put in whiteline adjustables with +1 on them just made steering slightly very slightly heavier...

I get a bit of bump steer but it feels totally different. I'm going to raise my suspension to the recommended settings and adjust the castor to see if this fixes the issue. Now if it would only stop raining :banana:

I'm actually after the stock rubber bushes that go into the front uprights, my whiteline stuff has started squeeking/making noise when cold, very annoying. I've been told its a pain to change them back, nissan don't sell the bushes by themselves you have to buy the whole upright.

Why not grease the bushes, it's a simple job. Take off wheel, loosen one bolt, squeeze grease, do up bolt, put wheel back on, move to other side, repeat process.

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.       My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.

      Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno

      Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.

      BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
