hi guys how r u all ???

i was just wondering if anyone could help me with some advice with finishing off a car a friend of mine has brought and wants me to finish for him. he recently brought a vl from a old couple who were clean out the yard of their sons stuff that was left there (he passed away a few months ago) and it trun out the car has fully re-built stock rb30de with a rb26 head fitted and wired almost ready to run (no manifold). my question is could i use the following parts to finish it off for him.will a stock NA RB30 Intake and Exhaust manifold bolt to the rb26 head ??? (It has to stay NA and look stock as he is only on his P's and can't drive a turboed car {we're in NSW} ). also where can i get a fully enclosed timing belt cover to suit a RB30/26 as it has no timing belt cover at all ??? any help will be muchly appreciated

thats a pretty amazing find.

The only stock manifold that will fit the rb26 head, is the stock rb26 manifolds, they arent interchangable with the rb30.

You could just use the stock rb26 inlet and have the afm on the drivers side of the car instead of the passengers side, but a custom exhaust manifold (extractors) will need to be made up at an exhaust shop. There arent any n/a rb26 so theres no aftermarket support for na extractors.

Are you sure it was built with n/a in mind? it seems like a waste for such an engine to be n/a haha

For the timing coverside of things, a rb26 cover needs to used but you will find there will be a gap where it meets up with the bottom timingbelt cover, since the rb30 block is taller than the rb25/26 blocks. To do the job properly you need to weld a piece of sheet metal to extend the cover so it meets with the bottom cover. I wouldnt recommend driving around with no timingbelt cover, you dont want dirt floating around in there.

doesnt the rb25 timing belt cover fit in a pinch with slight mods???

to get the rb25 to fit you would need to use the backing plate from the rb25 otherwise it wont bolt up, but you would still be left in the same postion with the gap where it meets with the bottom cover (cause the rb30 is a taller block the covers wont cover the whole belt). Just use the rb26 cover and modify it to cover the whole belt

    • I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.
    • Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?
    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
