Hi guys,

my temp. gauge (in the cluster) is not working... so, which one should i look for??

- cluster? how can i tell is the cluster is broken? (everything else working ok) and cluster is in good working condition

- temp. sensor? where is the sensor? how can i tell the problem cause by this sensor? how to change and how much?

Cheers

on the top radiator hose inlet on the intake manifold you'll see two sensors, a large one and a small single pin one with blue/black wire, this smaller one is for the cluster, take the wire off, and shove a wire in the spade terminal then earth it out somewhere. Turn the igniton on and the temp gauge should shoot way past the Hot mark... if so, the cluster works fine and the sender in the rad pipe is buggered. If not then the gauge has issues.

btw, dont leave the igniton on for too long with the sender wire earthed out.

I had the same problem and it turned out my sensor was faulty.

We determined this by earthing the wire out as said above and the cluster needle shot up. Soon as I pulled out the sensor from my other car and put it in this engine the cluster worked immediately.

ok, i've got it .. a small one

cheers

i understand your a noob and all, but you aint going to find it without going out and having a look yourself lol. I thought i explained it rather well, and with the pics posted, anyone should be able to figure out which one it is

so did you try earthing it out? you might find that the contact on the sensor is dirty and by pulling the terminal on and off and few times it will work.

ok, with all of urs help.. the testing is done!! well, the temp sensor was faulty

now, i have some more questions...

- how much for the sensor from nissan?

i have an after market temp gauge and

- just wondering if i can use the fectory sensor mounting to mount my new sensor that came from my new temp gauge? my new gauge sensor thread is 1/8 ..

-between the factory temp sensor and after market one, are they the same thread?

cheers

as for thread, i have no idea, why not take the sender out and try threading in the new one by hand, if it doesnt go, dont force it as the thread pitch may be different.

otherwise, i cant see a new one being too expensive, you could grab a 2nd hand one from wreakers... or drill out the hole and retap to suit the new sender?

Hiya folks... just a quickie noob question- the single pole water temp sender is for the gauge only? the ecu doesn't use this sender? Long story short, if i swap this sender for an after market gauge, it won't throw the ecu into panic mode? :-P Cheers guys n HAPPY NEW YEAR!

i think the little one (single pin) is for the gauge cluster and the other one (next to it) should be the one that send the signal to the ecu.. correct me if i'm wrong..

    • I've been building a 26/30 for a few years now. I've had the head built with all the good stuff. I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.

    • lol no cats running str pipes … might put the high flow back on but I suspect it might effect my ignition timing a bit.
    • That looks a bit like yellowing to me. If the rear bar was looking like that from rich idle, I'd ask the question, do you have a catalytic converter fitted, and fully working?
    • Oh yeah gets really bad down here. I’ll have to upgrade the heater and wind screen wipers as well for optimal performance.
