Chris,,,I'm a dickhead,,,I forgot all about you mate. Last Saturday would have been perfect for you as we did O/park GP and thought shit Chris could have done this round.

I'm having a bloody ball,,,the cars still quicker than me but the gap is closing. I still can't get all the tin-top driving style out of my head. I brake way to early,,,accelerate way to late and my mid corner speed is just plain old crap. Having said that I broke the my class record last weekend,,,funny I beat Dennis the previous owner of the car. He did a 1.19.07 in 2006 and I did a 1.18.63.

I have sup regs for the next round at O/Park south on the 14th Sept but not the day/nighter yet. I will post up when I have them.

Jess could please please please ask Dave about my windscreen I need it desperately. My head is getting bounced around like a pin-ball with out it.

Sorry but Skylines NEVER EVER come last.

Neil.

Oh I will be in for day/nighter also!! But I got told not anyone can enter that event :action-smiley-069:

Yep Brad said he will have it on the weekend, ..you were drunk at 7:30pm??

Oh Shit,,,I thought Brad changed his name to Dave or I was indeed pissed.

Hey Brad was lucky. I get called dickhead.

Harsh,,,when was the last time I called you that,,oh maybe Sunday when you were playing swings on Marks 1/2 cage. Even then I was looking after your best interests,,,wouldn't have wanted you to fall.

Neil.

Chris I have had no communications with anybody about it yet. Sounds like Jess must be in the know.

You would have to assume being a day/nighter at Oran Park they will get tons of entries and my quess is they will try and restrict it to registered drivers and regulars.

Well round 8 at Oran park south turned into a joke. Saturday nights rain converted the track and infield into a watery mess. Finally at 10.30 the headmaster sent us all home because they only had one recovery vehicle and they were frightened it would get bogged as well. He didn't even give us notes to give mum.

Personally I think it was handled poorly,,,as there were lots of tow vehicles that were 4wd and it wouldn't have been hard to get some owners involved. What was even funnier was the sound of go-karts running around in the back ground while he was telling us. We went around there after packing up to watch and they were coping very well.

I had some interesting issues of my own. Seems either the nitrogen bottle or my regulator has a leak,,so 4 of us spend almost an hour swapping to wets (the car uses centre lock wheels). Boy was the swet pooring off me!!!. Next little issue is if a round is abandoned do I get my money back?,,, the jury's out on this one at the moment. Last issue is I hired a garage,,,$110 bucks,,a hell of a lot of money but the boss budgets for it so I don't argue,,,Oran Park and I come to a compromise as I'm going to do the day/nighter we'll just transfer the funds to that meeting,no.no.no the price has gone up for that event and I now need to pay 40 bucks more. Now I love O/P as a track and I'll cry when it's gone but I won't bloody cry when the managment are un-employed.

Neil.

wtf do i never get subscriptions for this thread

anyway.....no chance you willl get the money back - it wasnt the organiser's fault it rained and they won't get their money back from the track (track hire or garages).

what a pita having to do it all by hand :) better get that sorted out for next tiem

btw you guys are pussies for not racing in the rain

Duncan thats funny,,,I don't get them either,,,crazy SAU.

I'm almost resigned to the fact the moneys gone but what pisses me off more is most of these guys do this stuff on a shoe string budget and as usual the little man suffers.

Pussies hey,,,we all wanted to alt least do some laps but the headmaster said no.

John I sat there watching you guys sloshing your way around in the mud,,,looked like mad fun.

Oh well shit happens bring on the day nighter. The sup regs should be out this week.

Well,,Well Mr Know it all. :P:D:banana:

So far I have my money transfered plus the added cost of the garage ($40 bucks) and now I only have to pay an extra $10 for round 9.

Bring on the day/nighter.

I do love ya buddy.

Well seems I am getting my money back from round 8. Wonders never cease to amaze me.

The day/nighter was a ball without a doubt. I just wish there were more like it and I wish some Skylines would enter,,,I love the sound of RB's.

I ended up 4th fastest outright and broke my class record. So that means I now own both class records at O/P,,,which is as cool as but a 48.14 is not what I was aimimg for I want a 46!!!. The only corner I really attacked was turn one,,,next year I will be attacking every corner at every track.

Someone told me that I did the faster time in the dark,,,I haven't checked,,,but if I did then thats another bonus.

Everybody was complaining that they had lost there brake marking spots in the dark,,,but I had absolutely no problems at all mainly because as I told them I don't use track side markers I use on track markers which I could see.

I now understand Duncan's craving for racing at night.

Neil.

Sounds awesome Neil!

I'll hopefully be doing a few rounds next year!

And well done on the records!!

Thanks Chris,,,I'm a happy old bastard at the moment. Funny the previous owner of my Radical had the record for the full track,,,so I'm faster than him,,,but I don't know who owned the shorter version.

It will be great if you do some rounds next year,,,then I won't have to read "I have to work on bloody Sundays". ever again. that must have been very frustrating.:cool::)

    • Had I known the diff between R32 and R33 suspension I would have R33 suspension. That ship has sailed so I'm doing my best to replicate a drop spindle without spending $4k on a Billet one.
    • OEM suspension starts to bind as soon as the car gets away from stock height. I locked in the caster and camber before cutting off the kingpin. I then let the upright down in a natural (unbound) state before re-attaching it. Now it moves freely in bump and droop relative to the new ride height. My plan is to add GKTech arms before the car is finished so I can dial camber and caster further. It will be fine. This isn't rocket science. Caster looks good, camber is good, upper arm doesn't cause crazy gain and it is now closer to the stock angle and bump steer checks out. Send it.
    • Pay careful attention to the kinematics of that upper arm. The bloody things don't work properly even on a normal stock height R32. Nissan really screwed the pooch on that one. The fixes have included changing the hole locations on the bracket to change the angle of the inner pivot (which was fairly successful but usually makes it impossible to install or remove the arm without unbolting the bracket from the tower, which sucks) and various swivelling upper arm designs. ALL the swivelling upper arm designs that look like a capital I (with serifs) suck. All of them. Some of them are in fact terribly unsafe. Even the best one of them (the old UAS design) shat itself in short order on my car. The only upper arm that works as advertised and is pretty safe is the GKTech one. But it is high maintenance on a street car. I'm guessing that a 600HP car as (stupidly, IMO) low as you are going is not going to be a regular driver. So the maintenance issues on suspension parts are probably not going to be a problem. But you really must make sure that however your fairly drastically modded suspension ends up, that the upper arms swing through an arc that wants to keep the inner and outer bolts parallel. If the outer end travels through an arc that makes that end's bolt want to skew away from parallel with the inner bolt, you will build up enormous binding and compressing forces in the bushes, chew them out and hate life. The suspension compliance can actually be dominated by the bush binding, not the spring rate! It may be the case that even something like the GKTech arm won't work if your suspension kinematics become too weird, courtesy of all the cut and shut going on. Although you at least say there's no binding now, so maybe you're OK. Seeing as you're in the build phase, you could consider using R33/4 type upper arms (either that actual arm, OEM or aftermarket) or any similar wishbone designed to suit your available space, so alleviate the silliness of the R32 design. Then you can locate your inner pivots to provide the correct kinematics (camber gain on compression, etc).
    • The frontend wouldn't go low enough because the coilover was max low and the upper control arm would collapse into itself and potentially bottom out in the strut tower. I made a brace and cut off the kingpin and then moved the upright down 1.25" and welded. i still have to finish but this gives an idea. Now I can have a normal 3.25" of shock travel and things aren't binding. I'm also dropping the lower arm and tie rod 1.25".
    • Motor and body mockup. Wheel fitment and ride height not set. Last pic shows front ride height after modifying the front uprights to make a 1.25" drop spindle.
