turbo needs a full rebuild if the wheel moves side-to-side

sounds like the turbo wasnt balanced correctly initially, or something has upset the balance after it was performed (turbo dropped, foreign object hitting the wheel under RPM etc)

Being a plain bearing unit, expect that it will have some movement both end-to-end (thrust), and side to side (radial); more that you would experience with a BB unit. In operation it rides on a high pressure film of oil that takes up a lot of that play.

If there appears to be a genuine problem with your rebuild, then the best advice is to get in touch with the servicing agent for a warranty claim.

yeah the comperssor wheels gets like so close to the housing.... but i think under pressure ect it would touc for sure... i can see the scratch marks!!!... actually. i was just in the middle of pullin it out and have myself in a pickle of actually getting the thing out!!!... the turbo is high mounted .. i have undone all the dump pipe nuts and that is loose ( no gasket in there??) and under neath the 2 bolts closest to the front are undone... but the ones at the back cant come of cause they are blocked by the dump pipe//.. i cant get it out,,,any ideas??... oh,.. and when undo the oil lines...should i undo them at the turbo or like at the next join which is the hosing??... sorry guys but i hate my car in bits...HELP!!!... cheers alex
