Too bad im defected for more things than a police station could clear, otherwise it would be worthwhile ;) i guess now that im in the system im on the chopping block when i can get it back on the road as they know exactly what to look for again.

as soon as your car is too low your going to regency they dont need anything more!

the wastegate call is just the cop being a tool, unless u can see a hks symbol on your stock turbs, or u have a exxy gate!

just take the car to regency get 'the list' of wat to fix then go back, not many cars get through first time!

just too clarify we was told to present our car to regancy as well as per the defect notice but once i rang regancy they told me to go to the police station and get the police station to ring regancy to confirm it your pod filter has to besecurly mounted your pod and fmic should be ok i would not touch them just fix the other stuff

cop sounds like a tool, shoulda just left it in the waiting bay n walked over ;) or get a passenger to drive off in it while ya go up and say "so what would you guys like to chat about, comparing prices normal people pay for cheeseburgers"

pod filters should be fine as long as they bolted in place.

sucks to hear :S I know how it feels, been done twice now.

How long did they give u to drive it? I think i got 40 hours or something like that.

Regarding rego - There are special cirumstances that allow you to re-register while defected, I did it. I went to the rego place at regency pak (next to where u get defects off) and paid the normal rego, and they gave me a temporary rego sticker that gets put on your window- its paper and bigger than normal rego. Then i went to cop shop to get my clearance to drive (once all the 'defects' were fixed). That way you can still drive around until your regency date.

So try do that, fix the defects.. get to regency motor reg and pay rego to get your temp rego sticker, then you can drive around still, get to work etc without any worries.

Id put stock rims back on, just for caution, and maybe go see AAA exhaust (at west richmond) to get them to fix your exhaust, they helped me out heaps for about $70 i had stock exhaust put on for the day and then old exhaust replaced after. They may charge more now but theyre pretty helpfull when it comes to defects, they helped me with both my defected cars.

Hope thats some help

that sucks cam!

ive been defected more times then i can remember haha. i used to rock up to alot of cruises defected :P

the cop was full of shit and had no idea or didnt care. pod, cooler is fine. exsternal gate is illegal but youve got a stock one so your fine, rims though. id put stockies on because of the stretched tyers. Wheelworx can hook you up cheap, dont have to buy just ask them to rent off them. joe lets me all the time.

boost controller needs to go and head to a audio shop that install alarms and get them to disable the TT. go to ET or AAA like flick said, they rent out stock exhaust systems. for less then 100bux

if you dont have lowered springs or anything then dont worry about that. check your bushings and make sure you have a tyre placard. there the things that regency go for the most if they cant find anything else to go for.

from now on, carry the transprt sa bible with you! when a cop trys to do you again for some stupid shit, smack him in the mouth with it......or show him that its legal.

you can head down to the local cop shop, (id rather sturt then christies if i was you) and they can give you a clearence till your regency date. you just have to have all the things on your car fixed and ready for regency when you go there. there is a dodgy way around it though without having to show them that youve put your car back to standard, pm if you want to know.

alot of people dont pass first shot because they rather go through and get their list of things wrong and then fix it. that was fine till they up the regency inspections to like 130bux. if you have little mods just replace them with stock things and youll get past fist shot, i get through first shot all the time.

yeah ive been to regency a few times myself. sucks.

I was told the FMIC's are ok as long as the piping isnt going through any structure.

I got a blitz Fmic and doesnt cut any holes in the car, so its not defectable./

some of the hybrid cheap coolers do need you to cut holes etc.

i got through regency with a hole for the fmic just under the washer bottle!

when i went to regency i just had to make the pod more secure and relocate my indicators!

but this is bullsh!t! cops are cops not mechanics and engineers! they can't just be like oh that is aftermarket and illegal when it's not! but oh they can because they have a badge...........

a few things,

that cop was an absolute moron!

A) It is not illegal to change 'ANYTHING' in the engine bay... seriously, this just pisses me off when the people who are policing these laws dont even know what the hell they are talking about...

B) your wastegate is on your turbo, and i doubt he was able to see it without jacking the car up or removing the turbo heat shield. The blue tube sounds like the pressure tube running from your plennum to your BOV. The front mount intercooler is legal so long as it doesnt penetrate any structural point of the car (chassis) As for the POD filter im not 100% sure but i am pretty sure so long as its secured and covered it legal.

C) should have either gotten someone to drive the otherway in your car or driver the otherway in it. ("come over and have a chat" will not hold up in court...believe me...)

D) I have a standard 33 airbox, cooler and exhaust if you need to borrow for regency...

E) lol @ them not defecting you for the Boost Controller...they always ask about them but cant tell them when they are looking right at em!

F) In regards to paying to have defects removed if your vehicle is infact roadworthy....thats absoloute crap, im sure we push this hard enough we would win...im not trying to be a cheap stingy bastard...but honestly thats just money wasted which they are not intitled to.

The lovely officer gave me 1 hour to drive then nowhere except repairer's or regency :[

ouch 1 hour!! Damn

Well check into what i said.. bout temp rego. Once u got all LISTED defects cleared, u can go to the cop shop for a clearance - they will sign the defect form (mke sure u have a regency date FIRST before u get clearance, they will need to know it). Once u got that u can drive around until regency

Thanks for all the quick replies! While i was at work i had someone ring up for me and my car is definitely not too low (they said where to measure from) and the rims should be fine but yeah slapping the stockers will be easy enough. I thought about just getting out the driveway and trying to outrun them but in the long run i guess them issuing defects without the proper knowledge of laws is going to get them in strife one day, but it may be in the year 2028

Will definitely check that out thanks flick :)

yeah the whole thing sucks :S

Least u werent rude to them, can make it worse.

I put on the tears with my first defect lol, all it got me was extended time to drive.. Second defect i went kinda nuts at him (i swore at him :S) think that made it worse lol

Umm im not too sure how wide the rims are but they are 18" impuls, so very dishy and yeah they are very stretched lol. As far as i know the ride height is stock, but he wouldnt even try to prove me wrong. Definitely bailing when i think something is up, not worth the risk. Area was uhh prob say its woodcroft, just down from south gate plaza

And he also told me anything changed from factory in the engine bay is illegal, probably just stirring me up :)

S**t thats near me :D Dnt go to macca's, all cops eat there. Sorry to hear mate. My rear tyres would be around 9-10" wide, they def look it. Im just waiting for my car to be defected. I'd sugest argue with him, see if he actually knew what he was talking about, but i would have done the same thing.

I feel for ya mate as i was defected last friday also so i know what your going through.I managed to get it off on tuesday and all i can say is make sure everything on your car works as they go over the lot, you name it they check it.These are the mods i have on my car and it seemed to get through pretty easy.

Blitz FMIC which utilises the standard piping.

3inch turbo back exhaust hi flow cat with cannon (just scraped through the noise test).

18 inch wheels 235 front 265 rear.

Standard airbox with K&N panel filter.

Disconnected the EBC and left it in the shed.....

Hope this helps and good luck .

I totally agree!, the cop had NO idea. Intercoolers come with the car upon factory design, therefore they can be allowed providing that as stated, they dont interfere with the structure or safety. and since the car is a turbo, it comes with a wastegate standard, they can only defect you if your wastegate/bov is NOT plumbed back (venting to atmosphere, like the loud PSSSSHHHH bovs). Airpods ARE legal provided they are secured to the bodywork and not flapping around free, and Boost controllers are easy to see but if you've hidden them, only regency will spot them, not the cops. If you have a turbo timer, well that IS a defect (as is the boost controller) but most of the time they dont know what to look for. its the defect stations that usually appoint cops in the know..

now as far as the priors, u dont have to go chat to any cop if u dont want to. they can arrest you or they can ask for your co-operation. also, mcdonalds is private property, they have no business in approaching any vehicle on private property. if a police officer pulls you aside, be polite, and forthcoming so you pass the attitude test. as soon as they start giving you shit, ask for their SAPOL number and note down their rank and name. Getting a number off the squad cars can also help if you suspect the police are being dodgy. If your car is being defected for items that you know are undefectable, you are allowed to caution the officer that he/she is not following procedure and is defecting for offences that are not defectable. They do not know either way, as ALL cars have different compliance status (in the case of r32, SIEVS vs RAWS, there is a BIG difference). If the officer points something out that you know to be incorrect, then you should correct them. If the officer in question is picking on you for whatever reason (including for the simple fact of driving a skyline) or they try to defect you for undefectable items, it is your right and duty to file a complaint.

Most cops are good guys just trying to do their job, which is keep the community safe. Its a broad term and one that deserves respect, however there are some bad seeds out there. And one bad apple spoils the whole damn bunch, and usually they get away due to intimidation. Never forget that the police are there to serve you, and you should not let yourself get intimidated. Know your rights, that way you'll appreciate the good cops from the bad cops.

Simply put, if you remain polite, and yet firm and appear educated about the subject, they have no got a leg to stand on. I have the engineering regulations for SIEVS printed out in my glovebox, and the day I get any grief, I'll have the book to go by. They cant argue with printed, legitimate legislation, and the threat of a formal investigation can sometimes make them back off when they have been too aggressive. If you have an mp3 player, it can help to record your conversation discreetly. As police are in the public service, everything they say and do is on public record by default, and so you cannot be charged with illegal recording.

Hope this helps

For what its worth, I wouldnt have paid the ticket either. I would have elected to be prosecuted in the magistrates court; it costs the cops much more money, makes them spend a hell of a lot more time doing paperwork, and the prosecuting sergeant would most likely get castigated by the Magistrate. If you elect to prosecute, they mostly drop charges, unless they can prove as a fact you've been a dick, somehow

**edit 2

for what its worth, I got pulled over last month off northeast road, cop asked for my licence and I gave it to him... it was expired for a week (and i knew it was) but since i gave it to him all blase like and acted ignorant, when he said 'did you know ur licence is expired' i went "WHAAAA?" and looked at it and said "shit" quietly a couple times under my breath... and he said "im gonna let u go but you better get this registered within the week otherwise Im giving u a $300 fine" and when I asked if I needed to report in he said "No, as I have your rego and can check" which is fair enough. That's my example of a good cop. Will pull you over and check u out, and let u off for a minor offence if you're being a nice guy. It works both ways IMHO

Thats way too close to home to have nazi's defecting for items that are non-existent. :)

In saying that 'around' the same area I was driving at dusk with my other half and bubs in the car to grab some junk food when I had a mr police man fly up from the distance and sit smack up my arse; dangerously up my arse.

I changed in to the right lane and drove straight in to KFC drive through. I was followed in; they parked at the drive through exit; I decided I no longer wanted KFC so reversed out and got pizza. :D

I expected a visit for days afterwards. :S

That is harrassment. It is a tool to intimidate the culpable into doing something that incriminates them. You know what I'd do in that situation? I'd go buy two thickshakes and take it over to their car and wish them a nice evening.

You have NO idea how a simple act of kindness can a) piss off someone whos trying to job ya and b) prevent the police from reporting you as you approached them first.

;)

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
