Dohmar - has some great advice with regards to knowing your car and what is and isn't legal and how to present that information the the officer

most of the time we get pulled over we panic, we need to teach our selves

1) grab the phone and set it to record mp3 and tell the officer that everything he says and does will be recorded and uses as evidence should the need arise and don't do it in a smug manner

2) get a book out the boot/glove box with ADR standards that we have to comply to

3) tell him your ready for him to inspect your car

I'm guessing if we followed this procedure each and every time we got pulled over Mr. officer would think oh my this guy knows what he's on about

Well from dohmar's piece it looks like i should file a complaint, as i pointed out to the officer that the pod is secured down to the chassis and also has a cover over the whole pod and he still overrode me saying its illegal while the other more subtle cop wrote on the notice. With regards to the private property thing, is it even legal to perform a vehicle check as they did? Or by my complying with their demands does that change how it would be percieved by someone defending me if i was to complain about the issue as a whole?

I had a family member ring regency and spoke to one of the guys and everything bar the turbo timer, ebc and maybe the exhaust (he said its pretty much by ear, if it sounds too loud) is all legal in the form its in on my car so hopefully this wont be that much of a drama to get my car back on the road. I think i may lose the custom plates aswell otherwise it stands out too much and added visual effect is not something we really need on top of our cars.

Lastly my friends brother is a police officer and said he will get a hold of the booklet for my car in case this happens again so i know where i stand rather than just being told everything is illegal ._. lol. Regarding the whole pen/paper/recording thing, the thought crossed my mind but it seems as though they may think you are trying to outsmart them and if you werent confident enough to do it casually they may come down harder on you for insulting them.

If you get defected for somthing like a bigger turbo, turbo timer, ebc the cop is just doing his job. if the cop was being a tool or defecting you for stock parts then lay a complaint and stand up for your right.

What scums! I was walking home just before... approx 3am... down South Rd... 2 cop car goes hooning down past me on the other side of the road(guessing approx 80km/h)... they then chuck a u-turn and hoon past again this time weaving from one lane to the other without indicating then abruptly slows down and turns into a car park without indicating and revving it on the way in. I grabbed my phone out but no luck... I walked past the car park and was a cop fest in there booze/drug bus and all! Must of just finished off for the night and went for a hoon and meet up...

double standards... ;)

There is always one scumbag copper. I got pulled over like that once and also got accused of speeding and doing skids. Little did he know I was on my way to play soccer with the rest of his station. My local police know my car and know me, and pretty much told me this bloke was a clown. That was the last I heard of him. The same bloke booked my best mate for doing a skid at the local shops 1 month after he allegedly commited the offence. ;) Good times, good times.

I've read some of the suggestions in this thread.

For what it's worth (maybe nothing) I think some of you are walking a little too close to the flame.

prolly not the best idea to contradict the police to any great extent. if they do something wrong, you will have re-course through some other means to make it correct after the fact.

And this is where intimidation/ignorance of due process ends up getting people screwed..

Police will only step it up if you are rude or aggressive. If you're polite and informed, they will follow procedure by the book. Cops hate doing paperwork, and whenever something anomalous happens, they have to fill out twice as much. Im not saying argue with them, but if you know for a fact that something is inaccurate, its your right to tell them so. Politely.

Police enforce the law, that is written legislation, with very specific black and white guidelines. Thats why having the engi/compliance papers in the car doesnt hurt. They don't make it up as they go. At least not the good guys.

Laws in the eastern states are more relaxed than SA's. We have the most anal laws in the country here.

Well aside from Victoria, where it is illegal to wear hot pink shorts after midday on a Sunday...

After calling regency they said that turbo timer is illegal in South Australia only. Not sure about the ebc though

Sound advice. Courtesy never hurts, but can sometimes help.

If he's borderline about whether to book you or not, what demeanour do you think is going to help you?

    • Biggest thing is you're okay!   It sounds like between the accident, and the drive home, it was a pretty torturous trip again! On the bright side, you took the opportunity to enjoy the event more from the perspective of a spectator, than as an entrant!   Sad to see so much damage to the car. It really has taken a HUGE hit in the front end. If/when you choose to repair, hopefully the rails are straight (At least from shock tower backwards). Hopefully the extra cage coming through there has save most of the chassis rails, and HOPEFULLY saved the motor too. Best of luck when you eventually get motivated to start pulling it down to check it all out
    • Sounds more like what Brad said, that it's mainly transfer. What pad bed in procedure did you use, and did you replace/machine the rotors, or just swap pads?
    • The stutter is almost entirely in the pedal. I don't feel the brakes release and reapply as you would with ABS engaging but the pedal feels that way, without the brakes releasing. It only lasts for less than a second and the pedal is fine again. It's hard to explain, sorry.  I'll get under this weekend and just double check everything is tight. Fluid is at max where I left it.
    • What bedding in procedure did you use?   When you say stutter, what exactly do you mean? Like it feels like someone letting go of the brakes momentarily and regrabbing them again to get you to stop? Re-reading your post, and that is what it kind of makes me think you're explaining, like theres a little bit of a jolt, likely just as you're reaching a stop. I've only had this issue once. And if its caused by what caused mine, you will want to get the car up on stands again and check it over. Mine was a case of a caliper mounting bolt coming out and letting the caliper rotate on the other remaining bolt and gave play in a wheel as it came to a stop. But not every stop either!
    • Yeop... binned it   This will be a summary will not many pics atm and cbf  Fixed the samsonas - it was totally munched Put a new precision 7675 T4 on with proper split pulse mani Got to Sydney to get to car - drove to canberra to get racecar - drive back to sydney that night Next day all day at Plasmaman putting on new clamps cleaning some things up and adding another large engine oil cooler sitting at the rear above diffuser to keep things cooler Next day - Tuesday - on Dyno - killer wikid awesome pumped out really good numbers - more mid range and on lower boost levels Wednesday - first prac - all day again getting the suspension right - had to borrow front suspension again - out do a lap come in - out do a lap - in - what i had just couldnt handle the load at the more consistent higher speeds - got a lap in at the end of the day that was pretty reasonable  Put it this way that lap wouldve had me in 4th in Pro am for the whole event - with only 700 hp and used tyres Thurs first official prac day - lap out warm up - then entered a hotlap with above setting and 80% effort took corners 1,2,3 and into 4 car felt awesome -  rear came around out of nowhere bang into the wall near front on at whatever 140 kmph Done, over, gone Just one of those how did that happen apparently as all indications show nothing out of the ordinary Got to spend the rest of the time at the event like I hadnt done before - was actually Ok mainly as I had my family and my boy is 9 and got treated like a rockstar Long trip home, lost a trailer wheel in nowhere land, X5 airbag suspension gave up half way across nullabour and rode on bumps stops (its now completely fine) had to do a 19 hr drive day on day 3 as accommodation got screwed up so just had to keep driving till found a town with some Now to reassess - hopefully the motor and other things are OK but yet to be seen too. There is no easy fix there is no i'll just order that part and get it sent - we'll have a talk to people see what can happen and what the go is but at minimum its rebuild from scratch struts forward and alot of time effort and $ should and if I return and if but maybe/ when  I have the cage tied into the front strut towers - if I didnt have that things couldnt been worse you can say its just a front end but if you know what goes into these cars... you'll know what that actually means in reality   Car was very fast. Disappointing we just didnt get to show it Effort doesnt win you races though     Apparently this is motorsport !
