Now ive sat on the fence till now about the leewah, supra dyno comp debarkle, ive heard over 30 accounts of what happend now i know some ppl involved with the supra personally and from what ive heard leewah won fair and square according to the rules but nobody can deny that the supra DID make more power but out of bad luck made it too late. The thing that disgusts me the most is that i heard there was ppl in the crowd from this club saying comments about the other competitor including racist comments, and vice versa. But the outcome of this has made other people inside the industry aware of our club only by bad means, now we were talking about mccr and the rep they had and we DO NOT! want this type of thing to happen do we and i think all of us can aggree with that. Now this was just a dyno comp not a war which its turning out to be and for the ppl that did say comments about the supra guys i think u all should appologise and i think they should appologise to the Skyline guys that were involved. Now to the big question???? I heard theres gonna be another shootout this time for money??? is this true??

PS im not on any1's side just stating from what ive heard from ppl inside the automotive industry

also i dont want this to be a big shit fight with every1 on these forums i only want ppl directly involved to answer to this thread thank you

lowlux that is NOT fair i was behind the dyno next to gerald from ice and few sau guys we never made bad comments about the supra guys they are the ones that told us to get ****ed when they kmade 525 puls the bag gestures we came there for sun they came there seriously to win and when they had there arse handed to them they were not happy.

i spoke to the owner of the supra he seems liek a cool bloke but his support team showed a poor display of sportsman ship all the bitching seems to come from others all we did was accept the trophys which cabin judged as fair call

end of story

Andrew this is from what ive heard,i was not there all this thread was to point out that now from the MAS dyno thread on these forums, also the mccr forums (which i dont give a crap about cause thereve already got a bad rep) that ppl that have never heard of us now have and only heard about the Biased things that have been said in these forums. AND BE4 YOU ALL GO AND PUT SHIT ON ME I HAVE DEFENDED LEEWAH ALL BLOODY DAY AS HE WAS THE WINNER AND I THINK IT WAS A GREAT WIN. sooooo remember when u post im on leewahs side and ill say it again this thread is to point out that we have given ourselves not so much a bad rep,but i guess we now need something to show that were not like mccr and dont go bagging other groups/clubs/people just cause there better, faster or whatever. THAT IS MY POINT!!!!

i agree with andrew... i dont remember any name calling at all... i remember a few snide comments made by a few ppl from the supra camp and a couple of smart arsed comments from a few sau members but nothing to cry over.

from what i recall Dave doesnt give a shit about having more power than anyone... doesnt seem like the Dave i have met and know. We knew that Supra had produced massive power before but how long have they been working on it? and how long did they have to prep for that event? i'd have to guess that its a hell of a lot more than Dave and the ICE guys had.

i think a good thing to do is invite the supra guys to a cruise or bbq. and show them that it was not the sau guys saying the crap.

and if they say we did.. then they can point out the person who said it...if not. and they say WE JUST HEARD THAT.. then that just proves it was not us....

because u had have to see the person say it to know it was 1 of us. becase of the amount of people around

Im all for promoting club image but at the end of the day LEEWAH was victorious, I was there and never heard nothing and so what if people exchanged a few measly harmless comments, how is this going to give us a bad name, people can understand that the contest was intense and close and of course that is going to heat up people and getting everyone going but at the end of the day I really cant see this effecting the image in anyway and it definetly doesnt resemble MCCR and there antics

Its a story and everyone makes things seem bigger then what they really are, yeah for sure if they ran again theres a good chance that the Supra will probably win but they had 2 days to get there ass up to the dyno and if they are that up themselves and sit around milking it and getting the dyno guys to get the crowd to scream for them to get their car up then stiff shit I say...

They had their chance but wanted to sit out and waite and run their car last to try and rock the party but their shabby tactics left them out of the contest

And weahter I represent this club or any other club everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Thats my 2c

Cheers

ok now i don't think it was us making the club look bad but member from other clubs who have been bitching as inark said dave really ain't that fussed about who has more power he just wanted to see what he could make

TO ANYONE NEW TO THIS CLUB WE DON"T BAD MOUTH OTHER COMPETITORS

it was more the fact that it was a long weekend people were tired and stresses some if someone said somehting it would have beeen a stray word as we were all kinda exstatic about daves car

and to the guys with the supra good work guys i love the mk II supras and i won't deny it and hope to see them @ the glow show or final battle in sydney for some more fun :D)

can't we got over this and quit the bitchin??

leewah won fair and square under the rules and no one is a more deserving winner!!! inc the guys from ice. they got the car ready in 2 days and the engine was barely run in!!!

the supra qualified at 468kw had much more obviously biased time on the dyno and then magically pulled some bigger numbers after the event.

leewahs is a true street car running street tyres and fuel not some pumped up show pony rolled out only on special occasions...

i've had the pleasure of seeing the car go from stock to its current form and you can't imagine the hours and $ and blood sweat and tears that have goen into it and the patience leewah has had along the way when so many people would have said **** it.

get over it, its easy to hide behind a keyboard..

and tell those mlbccr knobjockeys to get a life or go back to kindergarten or cry to their mummies.

if they want to have a shootout then do it on even terms..

It's about time a car worthy of being a true all round performance car has won rather than a drug funded wank mobile...

my 2c...

the supra guys were just as pumped up about their 520rwkw run as we were about 495... so its easy to misinterpret that.

When the decision was explained to them by the judges (in a meeting between us, cabin and them, they understood. They were offered a trophy for outright, but they didn't want one without the other, and said they would put it down as a test run.

End of story, as far as the comp goes, leewah won, don't think he's interested in proving he's faster or more powerful than the supra.

The supra in itself is a magnificent piece of engineering and mechanics, retspec, but on the day, it failed to deliver when asked to.

many many other factors too...but im not gonan go there

theres a lot that people dont actually know...and i myself spent a lot of time in the dyno area with guys around like our own, dr drift, benny of bmt, rotorworx, simon of promaz and mick stanic from subzero....oh and bresciani....

no need to worry about rumours n such...

rightyo.

i was there the whole day as Dyno photographer... well something like that anyway :)

Now there were no bad words from EITHER side of the fence.

A few of us were out the back chatting to the supra guys for a good 30 mins. So i can't see where all this is coming from?

ahh well. I had fun :)

Sitting on the sidelines I didn't hear anything too bad while the two cars were on, esp from SAU guys. Going on the crowd with stupid comments thrown out (by many as old as 16) really i don't think any honest accusations can be levelled at anybody.

Anyway, whatever, the rules were rules and that is how the comp was judged. Various accusations can be thrown around about how it was judged, but its only a trophy afterall at that particular moment. Who is to say that in 6 months the GTR is not pulling 600rwkw or the Supra 600rwkw.. or whatever else is pulling XXXrwkw

Ok, here's the deal. I'm only gonna say this once and whoever wants to quote me on other forums and the like can.

I officially no longer give a flying **** about this whole who has more power ordeal. If I knew that this would be such a big issue, I wouldn't have competed in the competition coz all that happens is people start bad mouthing others in a way which is unbecoming to the club/workshop they represent which is something we really don't need in our car scene.

It already gets enough grief from the outsiders and police who deem us to be hoons and dangerous drivers. We don't need this kind of macho BS within the circles of imports starting about who has the most powerful cars and who was the outright winner and who has the shittest car and who has the biggest balls etc.

Why can't we all get along and promote the industry in a way where everyone benefits and we can give the public an image of us all having similar interests and some friendly competiton now and then. When it comes down to people name calling and sticking their chests out it becomes a bloody joke for all those involved and I fear that we'll get the same image of illegal street draggers which not only is dangerous but also uncalled for and unnecessary. There was simply too much testosterone running around on Sunday and people started questioning the judgements of the Cabin crew which is unacceptable behaviour. In professional sports, this would be instant suspension. There are judges there for one reason and one reason only, to make judgements. A judgement was made on Sunday and the result is final. There isn't much people can do about it now.

For all those interested on my stance of this entire BS saga, here is how I see it. If you don't agree, don't, if you do agree, good on ya.

I competed in 2 different categories during the running of Melbourne AutoSalon 2003 which were AWD and RWD categories.

This means that I am entitled to 2 runs as they were different categories and I completed 2 entry forms, both of which were accepted by Cabin officials.

I ran on the Saturday and made 426 Kw at all four wheels which at the time placed me first in both AWD category and Outright leader.

On Sunday, my Outright lead was beaten by the VL which made 446 Kw at the rear wheels.

I was supposed to go on after the VL and then the Supra would be officially the last car judged in the HP Challenge for Melbourne AutoSalon 2003

I was then told that the Supra would run after the VL, which logically made my car officially the last car to be judged in the HP Challenge.

The Supra managed a best of 468 Kw at the rears which now made it the outright HP Challenge leader.

My GTR then came out as officailly the last car to run and made 495 Kw at the rears which made me the outright leader of the HP Challenge

Judging closed

The Supra came out again and made 525 Kw at the rears which although was the highest HP figure out during AutoSalon did not count as judging was complete.

Full credit to all those involved in preparing the Supra. I'm sure there was just as much if not more preparation time going into that car as there was going into mine.

Let's get a few straight now. Yes, I admit the Supra made more HP than my car did over the weekend. Anyone who wouldn't acknowledge that is either blind, ignorrant or just plain stupid, but the fact of the matter is that the judges closed the competition after my car ran and hence the competition was over.

This says two things to me. The first being that the Supra made the most power of any car which went on the dyno that weekend. The second being that due it being after judging closed, my car was officially judged the Outright HP Challenge winner and winner of the 6 Cylinder class (as they decided not to have a AWD category due to lack of participants).

For those who argue that the Supra deserved 2 runs coz I had 2 runs, I pose this to you; if I didn't run the car in AWD at all and had only a RWD run and the Supra came out and beat me, that's all well and good and the trophies would be sitting on a shelf with the Supra's owner. The fact that I competed in 2 categories and had 1 run in each category should be enough justification for you for 2 runs. If the Supra decided to somehow compete in the AWD category (God knows how) too then I wouldn't have a problem with it having 2 runs as it would be 1 run in each category. Also, if you take into consideration the drivetrain loss of a AWD compared to a RWD, it is obvious that nothing was changed in the cars tuning between the 2 runs.

As for name calling and the like which supposedly occured during the competition, I have only this to say. I was in the cage at all times the Supra and the GTR was being run. I was close enough to both the SAU/BMT crew and the Supra crew to hear everything said and not once did I hear anything of real seriousness come out of people's mouths. Yes, you get the occasional snide remark from one party or another but that's a given considering the tension of the teams involved. We all say things sometimes which we don't mean and in hindsight it could possibly gone unsaid but it's part of the competition. I am confident that none of the SAU/BMT crew meant anything of the comments if there was anything bad said about the Supra crew. I had nothing but respect for the Supra crew when they made big numbers as did everyone from SAU/BMT and congrats should be made to them for making big numbers. Whether the car was running pump gas, had an exhaust or whether it was street driven on a daily basis is no concern to me. There was nothing in the rules saying that it had to be street driven. The only rule was that whoever made the most power during judging time would win and that is what happened.

As for a Shootout, as the owner of the GTR, I have not heard anything about this and I'm sure I would have if my car was going to be involved in such an event.

I have nothing to prove to anyone. I went to Melbourne AutoSalon 2003 to see how my car compared to other GTRs. Due to the lack of GTRs, I decided I wanted to see how I compared to other 6 cylinder cars. I guess we all saw the results and I am more than pleased that our small little crew can compete with the bigger well known crews out there.

Thanks to all involved and I apologise for the long post. I feel that something had to be said to straighten some things out.

    • What does it look like with highway driving? And yes, I had a similar thought as Duncan. It looks quite similar in my Stagea and I have made myself accept it as normal. Might have to look into it some day
    • While I was waiting for the new parts to come in for the charge pipe and radiator I decided to do some turbo modification. The drive pressure (exhaust backpressure) was a lot higher that I thought it should be. For 32lbs of boost drive was 55lbs. The turbine housing is a 1.10AR and my turbo builder has suggested to go to a 1.25AR. To test if a larger AR would do anything to reduce drive pressure AND not spend any money I decided to hog out the divider in my current housing. I removed it from the inlet and the whole way through the housing.  After reassembly and testing it doesn't look like this modification did anything for reducing drive pressure or requiring more fuel (making more power). Oh well, it was worth a shot. We'll get some data at the track if it makes it past the 60ft. I also machined a $7 shift knob off Amazon to fit my Stillway shifter since I didn't like the Stillway shift knob. Next on the list was the radiator replacement and fabrication of a new intercooler tube that had no silicon coupler. No pictures of this - I was short on time each night after work to get this done and didn't stop to take pictures.  Next was to get the clutch disks out and replaced. Previously when installing the dogbox I had ordered a set of the same sintered iron disks I had been running because I switched to the 26-spline input shaft. I thought it was odd that they didn't have any markings or brand name on them like all my old disks had but installed them anyway. At the track I could not get the clutch to lock up using my normal strategies. After two track nights I reached out to the clutch manufacturer and ask their thoughts. They said they had to switch the material out because they were having trouble getting the original material and that this new material would not take to being slipped very well.  So out with the first set of 26-spline disks and in with the correct material 26-spline disks. While I had the trans out I added an inspection/service hole. I've wanted one of these for a while. Now I can have a look at things and change the front cover shimming when needed (clutch wear). I hustled and got the clutch change done in a few hours on a Saturday. Hopped in the car and drove home. On the way home I did a 1-3 pull. When shifting from 2nd to 3rd the core plug in the back of the cylinder head popped out and dumped all the coolant. Thankfully I was only 30 seconds from home and coasted it there. Datalog showed nothing unusual and 2.5psi of coolant pressure. That plug has been in there since 1992 but I guess it worked its way out. Pulled the trans AGAIN and replaced the plug, JB welded it in, and made a brace. Also deleted the head drain I had added in during the bearing issue fiasco.  I am currently changing my boost control plumbing to make it cleaner. After that is done I'll make another attempt at getting past the 60.
    • Are you 100% sure this isn't tune related?
    • 140-150 across the board. At this point hoping the grounding harness fixes it. My grounds are all tied to the chassis and none to the battery. For SR and KA that’s never been a problem for me but had a few other guys here and Reddit who told me RB really like a very solid ground setup tied to the battery so going to try that next, I’m stumped if that doesn’t do it. Never had a car have spark and fuel and not fire off before. Only thing I can think is the spark is intermittent/weak because of grounds nothing else really makes sense at this point
    • I am having close to the same issue. Can you help me with what wire you grounded to get your pump to trigger?
