hey everyone,

I've taken almost a year off from performance cars and since im financially more secure now, i've decided to get back into it ;) but sorry, i didnt buy a skyline :( somehow if i wanna buy a skyline again it has to be a GTR.. nothing else.. so thats over my budget

Anyways.. the new ride's a 1990 ST185 Celica GT4 :D(needs a few grand to get it ready) but most of the major mods have been done.. so.. ill keep you guys informed :D

Cheers

Bernard

yeah it was the gt4 for sale on this forums.

yes i bought it from CK.

Just need to spend another 3-4grand and the car will be ready to have at least 280hp awhp :)

nice buy man, should be a good car ! :D

umm.. the t3 turbo thats on the engine now is almost gone.. so im either gonna get back another new t3 or gonna get a gt30. Then ill go and get the motec tuned and also probably rebuild the gearbox.

Then ill be ready for cruises :)

Mate I was dealing chop to supposedly "modified" GT4's when I still had my RB20 :teehee: If we're talking about when things are "ready".. wait till I get my GT35R on! :(

haha.. well.. no matter what.. its still a gt4.. so im not gonna spend THAT much money on it to fix it up.. rather get a gtr and put in just a few grand and FLYYYYYYY :)

what are the plans to the car ay

Umm.. currently its got forged internals, motec, t3 turbo(requires to be changed as wearing out) and all the standard mods such as turbo back zorst and pods etc.

Currently trying to save up some cash first to:

1. Change to a new t3 turbo or get a gt30 turbo

2. Tune the MOTEC

3. Rebuild the gearbox

Im hoping to get at least 250++awhp and try to make it to mid 12's in the 1/4 mile

Nice pick up, the GT4's are a good package and can deliver good time. The gearboxs are tough as nails so you shouldn't need to rebuild it unless it has a fair few kms and its got worn syncos. Theres plenty of boys overseas pumping well over 400awhp on the stock box with no dramas.

A gt30 would be a tad laggy on the 3SGTE, i would be more inclined to go a disco potatoe, which will quite easily get you you 280awho and will be nice and responsive. Even a stock ct20b from a ST205 celica go well and should get you close to 250awhp (i use to have a st162 celica with the conversion and i had the ct20b at one stage and it net me 271hp atw, plus it had full boost at 2500rpm)

Anyway goodluck with it

p.s. i have a low km st185 gearbox (from my halfcut) that i will let go cheap if you want it instead of rebuilding yours which tends to be big $$$. I live in perth aswell

The R32/3/4 are either helliishly heavy (at low speeds) if the solenoid is not powered at all, or hellishly too light (at high speed) if it is powered all the time. I presume that it is PWM controlled on those cars. I hadn't thought about the S cars not having variable assist. ugh. What crappy plebby cars they must be!
    • Hmm yeah that is a good point. It looks like it'll just bolt in with no real issue besides maybe the bushings being different. My other concern was that 2 pin plug that I assume is used in some way to control the rack solenoid depending on the speed signal from the ecu. The DMAX rack doesn't even have that plug though so, don't think it'll matter. Might just order the rack and see how it goes. Will update this when I figure something out
    • I'd say it's a fair bet that the feed and return fluid lines will be in different enough spots that you would need to come up with a way to cut the originals short and adapt with new hard line adaption or braided teflon hoses or somesuch. But really, you have the car, you have the photos of the DMAX rack - you should be able to go out there and see for yourself whether they're in the same or different spots.
    • I've been doing some looking around and honestly was just considering throwing a new rack at it. I saw that the dmax silvia rack bolts up into the 33 with the silvia bushings but not sure if the high pressure lines will sit in the correct spot. I believe other version of the 33 rack are the same/similar to the racks that can be opened up without as much fuss so I assume the dmax rack would fit but any ideas?
    • I've never played with one, but I would expect that you are correct. That slot looks like it is intended to be used to unscrew the end, and the flats on the body would be better than grabbing it around the round bit with a pipe wrench. So, yeah, probably unscrews. You'll probably have to make a tool to drive in that slot.
