Trackday Sandown 15th March Our Cheapest Ever Trackday

Recommended Posts

especially when it's going to be 35 degrees

think that Royal Purple 5w30 will be up for a 35 degree track day?

do we have to have our own helmet, or can we borrow one on the day?

Glad I'm using 5w40 :D, just watch your oil temperature and if its getting too hot its time for a break ;)

You normally bring your own helmet, you can ask Kevin if you want to hire, I don't know how many helmets he has.

Regards,

Gareth

true, but i'd rather use a full synth 3w50 than a semi synth 5w40

Well yes, you should be using good quality fully synthetic oils

I might see you at the track day?

last time i did this we had a few hot laps and a cool down lap. then more hot laps. until somebody decided to dump their sump all over the track! just check all your gauges esp temps and have a great time. Make sure you have a sump plug not a spark plug and make sure its tight! :laughing-smiley-014: if im free ill come round with the camera for some happy snaps.

sorry, that came out wrong. i was thinking in my head, and forgot to type, that i've changed an order from 5w40 castrol syntec (not full sythn) to Royal Purple 5w30 (full synth)

be informed it should be ok, but never hurts to have some opinions.

Yeah dude, def see you at the track day! I think it's fair to say we've both been running around like idiots getting our cars ready :) I'm still got some fluid changes and brake pads to go, and i should be semi happy bout my prep.

How's your car coming along?

i "think" we also did a driver training day together as well.

Woohoo, dregraded from 35 deg C to only 30 :D

still :s

Cars in to get the steering fixed today, get a tower brace and should be getting the bonnet pins on tonight, i'll be buying a fire extinguisher tonight too... just in case to worst happens :s

Was fitting an exhaust to a mate's S13 who's going, till midnight last night. So much to do, so little time.

from the Kevmeister

"Hi Daniel

We only have one or two helmets available on Saturday, it would be best if you brought your own helmet."

in case people were banking on borrowing one, probably best to bring your own

cheers :)

Hey, we may have done the driver training day together, I'm terrible with names :)

No brake pads so if I can't do too many hot laps then I won't.

Brake fluid I haven't done, I'll get my car back tomorrow evening so I'm going to get it and do the brake fluid change tomorrow night (so disorganised).

Do you know how much fluid I'll need? Need to find some quality fluid, Motul RBF600 :)

Regards,

Gareth

buy more brake fluid then what you will need. can never hurt to have a bottle spare. when i was last at sandown, i reamed my whole brake system. rotors badly, fluid was cooked, pads... i got new rotors brake pads braided lines and fluid all cos of a day at sandown

lol tell me about it, I worked 4 12hour 3-3 shifts this week, then in the afternoons have put in an oil cooler (which ended up having to be totally

custom fitted), ally radiator and new rotors....bedtime now I thinks, see you all tomorrow

Had a great day... just have to load the photo's up...

Anyone get pics of my Gazelle? The Silver one with the orange engine bay :nyaanyaa:

The silver R33 GTR was NUTS!!! There seemed to be more than a few Skylines there all doing rather well... It was interesting to see the different stages how the different cars went.

Great day besides the heat...

Now to sort out the issues that arrose from pushing it in those temps :s

A bit late, but just wanted to say thanks to Kev and the crew for putting on a great day. Plenty, plenty of track time, great instructors, lots of drinks :D

Highly recommend anyone wanting to get into this sort of thing to go to one of these days. It was my first real "track" day, and was a great way to start out.

Nice to meet some of the sau peeps as well :) Gareth, Kyle.

Kyle, i thought you had a GTR, what's the go dude! :D

(just the beginning bit)

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
