I've started a new job recently which will mean when I'm fully trained I'll have to start at 1.30am. Meaning I have to leave my car alone in a shopping mall car park from 1.30am till 10.30am.

I have a Viper alarm system with immobilizer installed, and it's fully insured, but is there any extra security I can personally do? I heard someone saying they pulled their throttle plug when leaving their car in dodgy places. Is there a fuse or something simple that I can remove and replace easily that will stop the car from moving with doing damage?

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, as it's not a very valuable car to begin with, with quite a serious alarm system installed, but after reading all these theft articles I am a little concerned.

Thanks.

try one of those steering wheel locks that needs a key to undo

or put a chain or something through your wheel? just like a bike lock but bigger?

if your working in the shop near where its parked wont you hear your alarm?

if you do, just put your security training to good use

All these security measures are good. But still dont stop people from trying... a smashed window and a FUBARed dash is going to be nearly as painful as losing the car.

I know you probably dont want to hear this but a good idea would be leaving the sky at home and trying to find another way to get there. Which i know would be hard since u start at 1.30am... Maybe a cheapo car that u use to work and home only?

or unless since u working at the mall when its shut... park it inside the mall! . that way its locked up... haha it may be a long shot but who knows?

i used to work security in a couple of shopping centres. most usually have at least a few carparks that are on camera. maybe find out where they would be at the centre u work at and park there. if the security guys there are ok to just ask them to keep an eye out for u when they patrol. i used to get those kinda requests all the time so i did. i mean it may not work for u but as i said its worth a try

  • 2 weeks later...

Some funny ideas reading this lol, if some1 wants ur car, tints, steering wheel locks and depending on how gud thief is some alarms are all useless. Best wud be a fill switch or 2, not to hard to put in, chuck it in fuse box under bonnet. Iv heard alot of things bout how cars a stolen etc, stil cant believe how to some ppl its so easy. Dont waste money on any locks or nething from autobarn etc, get kill switch or fuel cut, or another car lol

park under a bright light. when u leave, pop the boot and rip out the fuel pump or ign fuses.

REMOVE any precous objects from the car, dont give them an excuse to even think about it.

make sure that the alarm warning light is visible to all to see.

and finally, turn the volume and shock sensor up to MAX.. and u "might" be ok

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a fuel cut and a kill switch? Are they just switches hidden in your car that must be flicked on for the car to run? Can you buy them and install them, or is it just a custom wiring job you do yourself?

Also, how much would one of these cost to install?

Thanks.

kill switch is like a master switch, its not an off on flick switch its like a pin with out the pin switch wont work, and depending how you wire it ie, you can use it as a fuel cut switch etc. some race cars have these, incase of accident or something they can pull the pin and then bang engine not goin no more lol switch isnt much cheep autotechnica one it around $10-$20 from memory and a beter bosch one is $30-$60

Doesnt matter how much u spend on security, its not going to stop someone trying to steal it.

People steal any cars these days. Skylines to poor people are a wet dream... full of goodies

My advice is if you have to leave your skyline out of sight for even 30mins, you should be expecting the worse.

Buy a shit heap and drive that to work.

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
