Hey every,

i've done 5,000km since my rebuild...

having a dyno done i only recieved 155 RWHP @ 4500rpm... stopped it early due to fuel pump was dead!!

dyno gave me a reading of heading to 16:1 AFR near 5k RPM

lucky i got forgies in caught it early.. so it wouldnt kill this engine toooo!!

and yeah what made me take it in... is coz it made no power at all, culdnt spin the wheels or jack!

so i got this bosch 040 pump fitted, drove away and she throw me side ways 1st, 2nd n nearly 3rd!

problem is, i can be gunning it... hit the limiter hard 'for like 5secs' n then change gears n it major backfires

n then sounds to missfiring 'WRX sound ' ? or is it over fueling on the limiter coz the inigition??

i got new spitfire coilpacks aswell!!

so yeah anyways i took her for a ride last nite, was going good.. n then took off from the lights n not much power again.. like the fuel pump

problem..?!?!

thinking it was the CRAP GFB manual el-cheapo boost controller i drilled the whole out abit... erm seemed to lower my boost n fkn seems to take ages to spool up now! n the car just makes heaps of noise n speed doesnt go around as shabby as it did n does sometimes!!

WTB my old engine power back =(

any1 had simarly troubles? or any ideas?

should i get ECU? over fueling now? =(

hey mate,

thanks for the reply... i fort it could be to much fuel now.. stock injectors but ?!

yeah got a boost gauge, its about 10PSI.

until i drilled out the manual boost controller hole a lil n dropped it abit, now takes a while to boost up.

any1 else can confirm its running to rich maybe..

if so i'll get a ecu and a tune!

Thanks

get another cheap boost controller and don't drill shit.

what is the drilling supposed to do?

what exactly did you drill?

hey guys..

driving to work dismorning, after screwing down the key in the manual boost controller a fair bit...

aftermarket boost gauge shows 9-10psi,

coz yestaday arvo i was loosened it majorly... coz i drilled the small hole that flows into the controler 'IN SIDE'

only a drill-bit that was a little bigger in diameter... thinking that may of cause my problems cause i

'read the manual, and said it can cause wierd crap 'surging' n you might need to make it a little larger in diameter 'so i did'.

but driving to work dismorning, i received lots of power, no lag or delay. didnt even surge!!

think i need a ECU to fine tune this mo-foe

any1 have any comments on Greddy E manage units?

and wheres can i get this tuned in PERTH??

BTW mods are as below;

FORGED Melie Pistons/Shells n Gaskets Spitfire Coilpacks Stock Camshafts Boosted to 10PSI bosch 040 Fuel pump Front Mount Intercooler GFB Boost Controller HKS replica SSQ BOV HKS Super Flower Pod Fliter HSD Full Adjustable coilovers HKS replica SSQ BOV 3 n 1/2" Stainless Cat Back With 7 n 1/2 Stainless Inch Muffler Twin Plate H/duty Clutch

Wat tha?

well theres only a few ways to determine if your car is running okay.

1. just never give it any and then you wont find any major fueling/boost or inigition problems

2. take it out and give it a bit and fault find < against componets and search for possiable causes

3. waste money on dynos, and pay for them to guess and point their finger at things.

the only real way i you can personally feel/find a difference in performance, is drive it

in different conditions... OMG?!

and by the way... i treat my car and engine probably alot better then most others on here.

serviced every 5,000km oil and filter. gets all new geniue parts or aftermarket

equilient or better! only use 98RON BP fuel also!!

gets full clean / wax / polish every weekend.

but yeah, away from that? anyone rekon ECU / AFM meter cant handle it?

and anyone got any experience with the GREDDY E MANAGE?

P.S sorry about the spelling... will try and improve on!

*ADDED*

PROBLEM - SURGING / JUST REVING N ALL NOISE?!

uses major fuel when under-load...

ECU? CAS? AFM?

just leting you know that doing this will reduce the life of your engine by a significant amount.

Hey homeboy!!

did you miss this?

Surely this is the problem!! :whistling:

Well at least it will look nice and pretty on the back of a tow truck..

I don't call lots of mods and no form of engine management "treating my car well"

omg guys... its not like i sit on rev limiter?? !!!

=/ SIGH... i think you've totaly missing the point of what happens, just someone told me its over fueling..

and by the way, limiter is there to stop u doing damage LOL if your not riding it all day 'drifting' ect

awww u rekon its the ATMO BOV..

haha it stalls it time to time, but seriously? was more so thinking ECU...

thanks GTST

will try stocker 2nite

No the limiter is to protect the car from knobbos who dont know when to change gear.. It still does damage.. just not as much as over revving

wooohooo

okay? so now its ECU and not treating my car right... by running a lil 2-3psi increase with

fuel and stock ecu? no one told me thats abusing a RB25DET?

kk thanks for the advice, i'll take that as + 1 for getting a new ecu

P.S mate my skyline wont be on a tow truck... =/ scarcasim much here?

2-3psi increase..

BOV

3 1/2 catback with 7 1/2 tip

FMIC

more than enough to make your car run like crap..

And i certainly wouldnt be doing any regular rev limiter action without some form of engine management

p.s. No sarcasm.. i honestly think you are a knob

ok thanks motoman,

i see where your coming from, maybe i've described my problem badly / limiter.. k n 5secs is prob more so 1s!!

i thinks i need some sort of ECU too

extra fuel and air... maybe it cant handle it, hence when shift backfires?

any1 reccomend E-manage ultimate?

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
