Those results follow the usual trends , larger A/R turbine housing uncorks the hot side of the engine pressure balance equation and you often end up with the same power at lower boost pressure .

This is a good example of increasing the gas flow by removing a restriction , it also means lower charge air temps and lower fuel rail pressure so mostly good . The only downside is that the turbine spins up later in the engines rev range because the larger turbine housing passage means low gas velocity through the turbine housings nozzle until the engines revs climb a little higher .

Actually I always wondered what a GT3076R would be like with a 1.06 A/R GT30 turbine housing but its not a combination any ones tried as far as I know .

Throttle vs boost response works really well with larger A/R twin scroll housings but until Garrett gets the lead out and makes twin scroll twin integral gate turbine housings like IHI and a few other manufacturers do don't hold your breath .

Very interested to see how that real GT3071R 0.63 A/R build goes .

Noise , yep nearly always goes up because there is less pulse damping between the exhaust valves and the turbine housings nozzle .

Cheers A .

yep,

I did the same conversion on an Rb26 with the same turbo. I just drove the car for the first time with the 1.06 turbine housing and its heaps louder. Actually, i dunno if i can live with it with the trust 3.5 inch exhaust. I also found that the turbo performs like a light switch; its nothing, nothing, nothing, then wheel spin. I love that banshee wastegate scream though!

Shaun.

yeah its definatly much more agressive thats for sure

  • 1 year later...

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but has anyone else since done this swap?

Really keen on getting some more information on it as im considering doing this at the moment. Id also be interested in seeing how much peak power increased by.

Turbine map for GT3582R/GT3540R .

Yep the 1.06 is quite a jump over the 0.82 , if you can look down the passages from the mount flange side with a torch the difference is very obvious .

Cheers A .

my power went from about 350rwkw to 380ishrwkw from the turbo upgrade.

Do you have a graph to compare boost response?

Sounds like it makes the car a lot less linear.

ps. I have a spare 1.06 rear for a GT35 if anyone wants it cheap....

That graph shows a hell of a lot more flow A so cheers.

GT, how did the thing feel? For someone like me who isnt going to use the car for drifting is it a worthwhile update? The 30kws comment is definitley encouraging as im going to use the car for drag racing primarily and that will make a big difference but dont want the thing to be too much of a dog to drive. You dont have any dyno charts do you?

Did you notice any boost control differences, as im having massive issues with my 44tial on the .82?

Brockas, cheers for the offer. Im in NZ and sending a housing may be a tad expensive.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
