Just Wondering What Some Hoses Are.

Hi all,

I thought the RB20 Gurus in the performance section could best help me out with this one. I am wondering what these pipes are for, where they go, what they do and if they can be re-run or blocked off?

I AM ONLY INTERESTED IN THE RED PARTS.

The one on the right I know goes through the throttle body, what for, I don’t know. The two to the left I am not sure of also. Can these be blocked off? Is it really just a mounting block on the end of the plenum for these lines to merge and run? Where do they go and what are they all used for?

I don't know the names of those hoses, but i wouldn't go blocking those off. They're probably connected to sensors which run to the ECU.

They're there for a reason is my view.

Thanks for the reply R3380Y. I am sure they are there for a reason, I am just trying to find out what that reason is. Yes, I would prefer just to re-route them, so I am just wondering if it is just a mounting block for them on the front of the plenum?

Again, thank you for a constructive post there LOWESTR32. Yes it is in a "yukky silvia" and the RB20 was poor before it ever got put into a silvia! So you are basing your "just block them all off" theory on what?

i believe it is a water coolant hose. if u follow it it should lead thru the throttle body. if it does...its coolant.

im saying this because it looks similar to mine on my 25

based on that hopefully it will put that engine to a better place because it will most likely do real damage.u can get hose kits on ebay with them in it im pretty sure ask the seller of them they should know.laterz

r33cruiser: Finally someone with something constructive and factual. Yeah, they are definitely water hoses of some sort, I am just wondering what they are used for, where they all go and come from and if I could re-mount them.

47une, try googling an RB20 manual or something. Do you have a performance shop near you that you can ask aswell? I have know idea what they are either so when you find out, post up what they're for.

The 2 hoses side by side, are for the bleed bolt on the top of the plenum to release air bubbles in the water lines.

They can be joined together, should you need a front facing standard plenum, otherwise leave them be.

The hose that runs down the side of the plenum is used to to warm up the throttlebody in the the event of a really cold day (not something you Aussie's see much of i imagine). This can be blocked off, although not needed unless you are going to front facing plenum too.

if your going to cut the front of that plenum out and put the throttle body there dont expect your engine to last long. I have seen many of them break because of that mod.

It changes the flow of the plenum and individual cyl's end up running lean. Your better of getting a plazmaman or leaving it how it is.

yea mate. if u loook at the pics in that its about 1/2 way down u can see where he cut and blocked off the pipe. my pics arent working so u will have to look.

i recently did this. and nothing bad has happened..

go for it

and its in that link. but the hoses flow through the TB to stop it siezing...thats it.

No, I am not going to just re-locate the TB, I am making a custom plenum.
