Hi all

track day coming up, heard people rave about these things so i'm looking to get one in before sandown.

So far i've got two options...

Ebay = cheap, get here before track day

Nengun = more expensive, probably better quality, won't get here before track day.

Realistically the car will only see the track a few times a year, if that... will the ebay one be sufficient for what i need?? Anything look glaring wrong with the design from the pictures??

There doesn't really seem to be any local options for these unfortunately, unless i missed something somewhere?

all it is is just a brace to stop flexing. if you were a real handyman you could probably just make one up..lol that said in comparing the two they look pretty much the same mechanically.

get the cheaper one if you want to try it out on the track, its a no namer so you wouldn't think twice about painting it black to match your car. your the one with the good lookin black 34 with black 34gtr rims?

I got a cusco one for my 33 from nengun and it doesnt look the same as the pic with all those holes...looks more like the ebay one as being a solid mount that you bolt on.

they are a good mod, braking is alot firmer.

well i think my car looks alright :thumbsup: everyone has their own tastes but yep, it's black with black gtr rims :P

i've gone and ordered the ebay one, so we'll see how it goes when it turns up. Hopefully before the track day although the stupid seller is refusing to check his account for my payment, even though it was instant because he's got an ANZ account, and i've got an ANZ account!! He's like, "i'll check it in a day or so, it takes 1 day for money to transfer"... no retard, check it now because you have the money!! it's freakin instant!! you had the cash 2 days ago!! argh!! if i don't get it before the track day because of the stubborn prick, i'm not going to be a happy camper

i got an eBay brake stopper for my old R32 and it works great!

eBay is ok for static things, ie intercoolers, oil coolers, brake stoppers, strut braces, things that don't move or require moving parts..

a brake stopper is just a piece of metal that is shaped perfectly for your car to get the bolt to line up with the master cylinder

this is coming from a brake newb...

apparently, if you pop the bonnet, get someone to press the brake pedal, basically you can see the firewall flexing where the brake cylinder is (i'm assuming in the general area behind brake pedals). It turn (i'm guessing) meaning that if you press the pedal, and the actual brake cylinder is moving in the same direction, TECHNICALLY, you're doing nothing. Ie, the net effect of pressing the brake pedal is ZERO because the brake cylinder behind it is moving in the same direction and not registering the 'immediate' braking force you're applying???

soooo.... you wack one of these bay boys on and what i think it does is stops the brake cylinder from moving, MEANING when you press the brake pedal, it's an instant input to your brakes/calipers, whatever, because the the brake cylinder isn't moving when your foot is depressing the brake pedal...

feel free anyone to shoot that down, because that's how i've put the logic together in my head :)

i also have plans for a perpetual motion machine if anyone is interested ;)

i got a cusco or nismo brake stopper...cant remember.

seriously improved braking performance.

going from driving my car to a mates commodore u can feel the difference.

the commo has a 'spongey' feel compared to my hard biting brake feel

close. The lighter the force applied to the pedal, the less the firewall is going to flex. So for light braking the stopper makes next to no difference, adding a stopper doesn't mean the brakes are working sooner. Under heavy braking is where they have a major (well it's not that major) effect. It just means when you apply pressure to the brake pedal more if it is going into braking, rather than moving the firewall.

They are certainly a good thing, but not as important as a good set of pads and some decent fluid (which do actually improve braking performance). I'd put braided lines further up the list of must haves as well. They all contribute. The master cylinder brace may improve feel and controllability but it doesn't actually contribute to improved overall performance unless your firewall is so weak that you can't apply enough force to get the brakes to lock......

Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
