So I bought an R33 and I need to have a 3 point immobiliser and alarm fitted.

must have black wiring and meet the australian standards.. what ever they are.

I did a search on here and found a decent thread.

many people recommending the Mongoose and Autowatch brands.

someone recommended a guy called Chris from Audio Express in Brisbane.

Spoke with Chris and he said he fits Autowatch which has all the features above and meets all insurance requirements etc.

$770 fitted.

take 1 whole day.

problem - I want to spend under $500 and I want it fitted on a saturday (half day)

I don't want anything fancy.

just immobilise, lock my doors via remote and alarm.

Can anyone suggest anything/any place?

Prefer Northside of brisbane.

I am waiting to hear back from Col on this matter too.

My other option is this.

jay car alarm and immob and have someone fit it.

anyone on here an auto electrician that wants to give it a go.

quote me a fair price and I'll give you the job.

$770 sounds a bit steep? unless its a higher model alarm that costs more

I got an autowatch put in with window lifters

cost me $540 to pull out the old one and install the new one. Took the guy 3 hrs and he came to me

Only problem being he's in Sydney

I brought a mongoose alarm from a seller on ebay brand new.

Took that one (Mongoose M80S + Apexi Pen Turbo Timer i brought) to Mongoose themself at Coopers Plains and they installed them both for me and wired them together so that the car would be immobilised once the car had turned off after the turbo timer finished plus they installed the boot release for me so i can release the boot with the remote that came with the alarm.

Installation - $225 and they only had the car for 3hrs.

The alarm was $175 + postage from Melbourne.

The install then became a certified installation by Mongoose themself.

i'm in the same situation as you, as in, trying to find a good alarm/immobiliser for my stagea that meets insurance standards. i was looking at Dynamco systems. Link:

i dont know if the 33's have a factory door lock/unlock button on the key, but these systems work with this button so you dont have another box hanging off your keyring.

chris rogers knows his stuff that's for sure, it must be a top shelf system he recommended..

back 5 or so years ago when i got my R32 i had a "zylux" alarm and immobiliser fitted at hi-fi supermarket in melbourne (zylux are apparently made by code or so i was told).

they did an ok job and the alarm never faulted me. one thing i noticed though was that they just jammed the control box for the alarm behind the dash without attachign it to anything and it kept falling out - i had to secure it myself later on! also, not the greatest place to "hide" such a unit as its kind of obvious

cost me about $250 + install, and included remote central, siren, backup, and basic immobiliser

personally i would put a focus on someone that knows what they are doing when installing alarms. unfortunately with places like jb-hifi etc the installer at one place has nothing to do with the installer at the next place. one guy could be awesome and the other hopeless. there's no way to know really.

I would have thought Chris still did Mongoose or at least one cheaper option, lets face it Mongoose is not the best overall, but damn its best value for money (M80 FTW)!!!

anyone buy any system from JB hifi or autobahn and have them install it?

Actually the guy that runs the fitting bay at Autobarn at Virginia is qualified, I went to tafe with him...

Their installation costs last time I looked were extreamlly competitive, hence why may auto elec shops are not longer around...

Faulty alternators and starter motors are just replaced these days, and all the stereo/alarm jobs go to places like autobarn...

I would not be so sure about JB or WOW as I have no idea if their just wire jockeys or actually qualified...

Remember if you get it installed somewhere qualified to do it, you get full warranty...

Well the car will be insured and locked up most of the time..

so.. I only want the alarm/immob for the fact that it's an EXTRA deterant and it makes my insurance policy legit.

I don't care if a monkey installs it.

if it locks the doors, immobilises in 3 places as required and make a noise if set off, then that is all I want.

sorry, but I'm not all attached to my car like most people..

it's simply a car that I will enjoy.

I'd rather spend the extra money elsewhere..

Not saying you guys are wrong about the best is what you get for your car etc..

that's just not what I believe in an alarm system.

I have a Viper 750XI model im my 34 and a viper 500X in my RS4 both are excellent alarms although they arent black wiring,but they are insurnace approved and have 3 point imob etc.. check out the vipers they arent that steep either

P.S stay clear from warlock alarms from jb hi fi cheap shit

Oh you may have read me worng, Im a big fan of Mongoose alarms...

They would be my first choice everytime, as they offer the best value for money...

What i was trying to say is you can spend more and most certainlly get more

But there is little to no value in spending more when Moongoose can offfer you just about everthing for a reasonable cost.

If you're after an alarm that's recognised by your insurance company, it'll need to be installed by someone who is certified, regardless of how flash or otherwise you want it. The reason being that, as stated, an alarm is only as good as its install and, from the insurance company's perspective, they want to know that it wasn't whacked in by an amateur.

Personally, I'd get Chris to requote on a more basic system if that's what you're after - I'd say he's quoted you a higher-end alarm as that's what most people are after when they buy a car as theft-targetted and comparitively easy to steal as a Skyline.

+1 to that. If you just asked for an install he probably just quoted you what he'd like to install. Tell him what your budget is and what you have in mind and I'm sure he'll work something out and still be a decent install.

    • Please use a modern ECU. PowerFC with the Nintendo Gameboy controller is horrible. It's not 2005 anymore.
    • The car/ECU will have all the sensor that it needs and expect to have. I think i do not have to explain to you how the Link is way better specialy if you have swapped engine   I just do not want to deal with any "problems" cuz i have only Nistune which i learned is not that great and in my case cant even deal with that speed problem (Link can) And of course it will be way more easier to tune and diagnose and safe. If you have a 2016-to early 2018, you will need to replace your TCU with the newer version. If your manual 1st gear goes to 7k rpm and will hit the rev limiter unless you shift, you have the older TCU.   Why do I need to buy another ecu license/phone flash if I already have it on my ECU tune? Because of this, you will be required to purchase a TCU license and, if your tuner has it, the phone flash license required to tune it via phone/bluetooth.   Do I need TCU tuning? TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes.     • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
