Well, we came back for another go at the skid pan after our introduction in October and I can tell you that we're definitely hooked!

Thanks again has to go to Aaron and everyone else that make the days so enjoyable. We learnt so much and had so much fun. The missus said that the 180's and 360's were the best!

I recommend that anyone who thinks they're a good driver to prove it by giving one of these days a go

Anyway, I thought I'd upload some photos I took. There's heaps more so PM me if you want any more photos of your car.

Thanks,

Brett

Daz mate.. This is the first skid pan day I've run this year!

What a quality day! Great foto's Brett. C u next time mate. I dunno about you guys, but when I got home, I was totally stuffed :( .

As u can see, there was a mix of cars.. a mix of ages and a mix of the sexes. I didn't drive as good as I could of, but with a wrapped ankle that was still swollen, I did ok! Sorry for being a bit short in the morning, the pain killers were just kicking in!

The old Val ute re-broke a control arm and the 180 would have been treated better if somebody had stolen it from the owner and his freind! I hate seeing that kind a abuse... but it was his choice to continue with the mindless thrashing. They where asked to be kinder to the poor little thing.

Anyhow, when I track down the paperwrok from Grant, I will post up the results in the Qld events section.

So everybody that wasn't at the skid day understands..

the 360's we are talking about was a fully controlled 'loose' and catch exercise which consisted of a very cool 360 spin in the middle of the pan while traveling at around 60km/h across the skid pan. We all still remained on the skid pan, and nobody had an off track adventure!

Can u do rapid shots with that camera Brett? that would be great if you could get a few shots in a row to show how it works. Send me a PM will you!

New Thread started in the Qld events section for points and stuff..

Can u do rapid shots with that camera Brett?

"Burst mode" is what your looking for...

Most cameras have burst, however its useless on compact DSC's as compacts are too slow...

Entry level DSLR's can do 3.5 fps+ (frames per second) and thats what you need to show movement easily, 6fps+ is essential for high speed motorsport like drag, drift and circuit racing...

Another fun shot to take at skid pan is a "pan" or "panning" shot;

(These were done with a standard non image stabilised lens, so they are not the cleanest examples)

    • After using a protractor for an actually accurate assessment of what is required,  and by NOT using my uncalibrated eyeball I worked out I need a 25° silicone bend from the TB ro the MAF, but, my choice was either a 30° or a 23° (23° is a weird spec), so I grabbed the 23° one from Raceworks I also grabbed 1mtr of 3" straight from Just Jap, I needed 350mm, but they only had 300mm, or 1mtr lengths....meh Also ordered a 1/2" hose bulkhead fitting from fleabay, this has a smoothish mushroom looking head (they are designed for below the water line of boats) that will fit inside the bend, the hose bit and threaded bit looks to long, but nothing that a hacksaw cannot fix if required, the hose will then just get jamed on the threaded bit up to the retaining nut Fingers crossed and the unsightly amount of hose clamps will be reduced down to 4 once all the parts arrive
    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
