jakez88
my 32 is leaking power steering fluid at the rear of the car near the diff. i thought it was the diff leaking but turned out not being the diff. my mechanic says its to do with the 4ws as its shagged? he means the hicas right? now his not familiar with imports and only works on adm cars but his the only one i trust doign work on my car. what has to be done to fix? been reading about a lock bar? and heard if hicas is taken out the hicas light stays on forever? is the hicas lock bar easy to put in? or is it good to overhaul the hicas system? i pretty much don't know whats happening to the car and why its leaking so need some help. thanks people Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/210967-power-steering-fluid-leak-at-rear-of-car-just-near-diff/ Share on other sites
Trent04
yeh mate the hicas light will stay on, but u can easily turn it off by taking out the globe, as for the hicas bar, as far as im aware, it makes it easier to turn corners LOL ....sideways, but not too sure if it will stop the leak, but yeh justmy two cents Edited March 18, 2008 by Trent04 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/210967-power-steering-fluid-leak-at-rear-of-car-just-near-diff/#findComment-3729663 Share on other sites

adam-__-
There's a tutorial on how to install a HICAS lock bar by salad I think. If it's leaking fluid, it's best to get it fixed up because eventually the rest of the power steering fluid will run dry. adam-__-
Maybe you can take some photos of the leak so we can see how bad and where it's coming from? I wouldn't know how to fix it either way, but it could help others help you. Scottie
could be acouple of places. The high presure lines to the hicas rack or out of the rack boots they would be the most comman areas. Fixing the leak may be as simple as tighting a hose or the rear rack could need a rebuild. I haven't had a close look at them but going off another steering rack they can't be that different lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/210967-power-steering-fluid-leak-at-rear-of-car-just-near-diff/#findComment-3729959 Share on other sites

GeeTR
Need pictures bud. If it is PS fluid, it'd be clearly for the HICAS. As its all crazy 800psi stuff, it'd be all double flared like your brake lines; not too easy to leak. You could have had a gutter or something scrape and rupture the line, which is a real shame as Nissan charge a LOT for those lines. Your in luck friend! By simply clicking on the link in my signature you check the thread to my HICAS gear Shameless i know, but a brutha has to survive LoL EDIT: Degrease all the gear back there, and stick some butchers paper under it, so you can see the drops. Godzilla32
If its the rack leaking, they have an internal seal at either end of the shaft which prevents oil from escaping the rack itself. They will most likely be hard and leaking. The boots are just dust covers to stop anything from going into the internals of the rack. Once again thats if its the rack thats actually leaking. At a guess id say that would be it Pics to confirm.
