Skid pan! Now that I would love to do. Is that on a specific day or on all days?

(I'm hoping to be able to go to either the 31st March or April 1st)

Also, what is Oran Park's policy regarding cameras in cars?

Oh... and is there quality fuel available in or near the track?

Sorry for all the questions but I have never driven at any track before :)

Its true it is a nugget. Just a reasonably quick nugget thats all.

If Ive got it ready for the skid pan I may share it around.

Chances are yes Ill be at the Skid pan day. I have not entered as yet but ill get onto eddie this week about it.

Thanks edge mate, I might get in touch with them after the Easter break and have a chat.

Mind you, my engine light is now flickering on @ 6OOORPM... hmm (!). Need to suss that out as well before a track day!

Cheers

Wayne_J talk to a club exec If you can meet up with one you should be able to get the L2S licence on the spot.

so where was everyone today!??!?!

had a mad day! heaps of track time. was sedans vs a truck for the morning and then the truck left so just open circuit!!!

yay

so much tuning time, to day it was tuning the power fc with my new datalogic. really moved forward with the tune. shes running great now...

awesome but upsetting crash from some torana, he flipped over on the dirt at the end of the straight. felt very bad for him, no one likes to see that at all....lots of damage.

and the best thing was i didnt get pulled over by the cops this time...double YAY!

time for a real seat now and some lightweight rims...

PS, today i was told no to drift?!! whats the go? why do you recon that was?

I just got back from the track, fun fun. My first time!

6-8 times round track - from memory corner speeds end straight 60 70 70 130 70 80 120 ? 100 100 then last corner 70 onto straight -- only from memory which is shaky as I had an hour and a half of trouble on the way home. make 190-200kph on straight.

then boiled my brake fluid

The nut on the bolt holding the clamp for the lower radiator hose onto the radiator fell off and only discovered it coming off the freeway on the way back when it stalled and there was abit of smoke. I will need to pop by nissan spares when they open. At the moment though with the cap off and the pipe just lossely conencted by hand seems like in 3rd gear something might have been damaged as the engine is haveing spark breakdown a bit over 3000rpm, hope its just a coil pack which got wet from the water spray onto the top of the engine which happened when I was filling the radiator (steam was spewing out as I poured the warter in) and not due to a damaged piston or ring.

frozenwaffles maybe the drift concerns were due to the truck being on the track? I wasn't given any special instructions before I went on, just told the truck had just come off.

Just noticed lots of large lumps of rubber picked up from the track seem to have melted onto my tyres.

The surface of the tyres look like they melted too. Hope it doesn't ruin them with temp cycling for next time.

TUESDAY 25th IS NEXT TRACK DAY I'll be there if I can get the clamp and the missing is fixed. I'm ready to do the brake fluid Monday morning.

ah so this is where the debrief is

good day, some nice cars there. shame about the guy who rolled, i was considering going out again but felt a bit so-so.. then that happened and i went "yeah... i'm gonna call it a day". had fun, but cornering speed pathetic with standard rims and tyres! need sway bars too heh.

i'll whore my fav pic of the day in this thread too:

As of right now No. Im planning to shake the car down at the skid pan next weekend with the new transmission and brakes then the 1st at Oran THEN if there are any spots available Ill enter it into the state round once im confident it will be okay.

Have the 2nd round of the MRA series coming up too, I missed the first round due to broken gearbox.

sounds like everyone had a mad day. good to see.

weather was great too!

as much as i love oran park need to give wakefield a go...

does eastern creek do private practice at all?

whens the next biggie for us 'line drivers?

yeah eastern creek do have private practice. about 3 times a year and about 400 cars turn up :)

best way to get out there is to do a super sprint, state rounds are held there and so are individual clubs ones.

the place is just way too expensive for most clubs to risk hiring it for the day (think $10k once you add all the insurance and other extras)

wakefield is open often (around once a week depending on bookings). yesterday was really busy though the state champs are going there in 4 weeks and everyone wanted to get practice on the new circuit (tar was relaid over xmas)

Good to see you had a fun day Daniel, i got called up for work later on :merli: so couldnt make it.

yeah i was pretty pumped after i popped my track cherry lol, never felt i had so much fun in the my car in my whole

driving life. but then again things do break :D but look at the bright side, you learnt so much aspect of your car(hopefully :)), ie next suspension upgrade, better tyres for next track day...

i so dying for one now :(

    • One thing I can tell you is, do it properly the first time. If you encounter unexpected problems just let the car sit for a week or two if you have to get some other parts or figure stuff out.  I'd have said go and use as many OEM parts as possible but since you want to change the turbo later on a custom kit is probably the better choice. Since I have no experience with RB25 just compare parts diagrams and images before buying a line kit and it should be easy to see if it has everything you need. Amayama has very good parts diagrams and part number lists, that is what I used a bunch to figure out what I might need. And don't forget to plan ahead and possibly renew other stuff that's easy to get to while you're in there doing the turbo lines. Happy wrenching
    • Update 4:   Hi all, good news. Engine is running and all the gaskets and seals seem to be working as intended. No leaks so far, even the JB Weld seems to hold. I flushed out the old coolant a few times and put in fresh coolant, not Nissan stuff, I decided to try the Ravenol Protect FL22, they claim it works for a wide variety of JDM cars and the opinions on it by some people were pretty good. And it has the nice poison green color! And man am I glad I bought a coolant system tester earlier this year, vacuum filling works wonders on this engine. I can definitely recommend this to anyone still doing it the old school way. All you need is compressed air supply. Will have to do a small test drive as soon as I can, I removed the gauge cluster again as the tacho needle was still bouncing around a bit but it was much better than before already.  I also found some cracks on all 4 tires inner and outer sidewalls. Apparently these tires should 't be parked on for extended periods or be kept under 0 degrees during storage, which I did not know. Clearly the previous owner didn't look into those details either, he probably bought them just cause they are cool semi-slicks. I'm just wondering how tf I am supposed to reach 30-80 degree tire temperatures on the public road consistenly, these tires were never going to work for my use case. I'll probably order Continental SportContact7 ones as these are the best allround summer tire available right now and I don't think I'll need anything crazier for now. Do let me know if you have experience with various tires and which ones you recommend.
    • You have no idea how many goddamn boxes I received these past three months haha Most have been put to use by now though, luckily
    • Not going to pretend I didn't do a bit of junky work this time around, but mostly due to the fact that some things I am not willing to spend days fixing right now, like wiring. I try to do most things properly the first time around.
    • Regardless of neglect or incompetence, fixing either is tedious and annoying. Most of the neglect on my car is definitely rust. I hope I can at least pass inspections later on and they won't fail the car due to slightly corroded hardlines. I was generous with rust converter and wax and it looks ok, most lines in the rear are hard to see properly anyways.  Definitely will test them though to make sure they don't rupture under pressure, in that case the car isn't going anywhere this year.
