Hi Guys, My Name is Yury and I own a 1990 Skyline GTR. I'm actually from Canada but I need all the help I can get diagnosing a problem....

Here's my problem....I seem to be getting oil in my coolant. I have flushed the system numerous times but the oil just seems to keep finding its way back in. When I check the dipstick, the oil level doesn't drop very much, in fact very little. I know one possibility could be the head gasket, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest somethign else. The oil is clean of coolant. Also, my oil seems to turn black fairly quickly, I was wondering if that is normal or not. I am using royal purple 5W40. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try a Air Pressure Test when you do a coolent flush...

So after topping up all the coolent in the radiator, do the test then.

The pressure metre should stay and not move.

If the pressure goes down, there might be a little leak...

Might have to get the engine seals / heads checked to see any leakage. Thats all I can think of...

It would be the head gasket mate. I've never heard of anything else causing coolant and oil to mix. Try driving up a steep hill. If your car is over heating when you get to the top it has been confirmed. Also, try and get hold of a CO2 sensor tool. That should tell you whether you have a head gasket leak or not. Otherwise take it to a mechanic. I wouldnt drive it too much though, its not too good for the engine

A leakdown test of the cooling system and/or block/head will tell you exactly whats wrong, aswell as many other things

If your missing water then its being sucked into the engine or forced out through the o/flow. Look for white milky residue under your oil filler cap, or excess moisture from the tailpipe on initial startup, bubbles in the coolant etc.

The alloy head can crack pretty easily also

    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.

    • sensible choice....and all 32s should be in yellow
    • Run it in open loop for now, and drop the frequency down. This lowers the resolution and requires more duty cycle to do anything, however good to troubleshoot.
    • According to Josh, one of our local Americans, it seems the USA still can't get turbo systems quite right at a lot of places, so possible that they're not running great at all, but they've just not complained as NFI about getting it right...
