ok you do want to be careful otherwise the welsh plug will be floating around the head.

take a big flat bladed screwdriver, put it against the lip on one side and tap gently. the plug will start to pop out on the other side, grab it wth pliers so it can't fall in, then give the other side a good whack. Out she pops.

to install new one use a socket whose OD is a little less than the area inside the lip of the plug.

but since I think you are probably installing one of those oil drain fittings that doesn't really apply. you would need a socked deeper than the threaded section. You might want to use some joining compound on the outside since you would be fitting ally not brass plug with interferance fit.

in fact best to get fitting details frm the guy making them - if you get this wrong you will have an oil leak at the back of your head that will be either engine out or drill a bighole in the firewall to fix

Correct mate.I will be installing a fitting for an external oil drain.The seller gave me instructions on installing the fitting,just not how to remove the welsh plug.
