F&F Tokyo Drift S15 had a 26/30, but didn't have stock bonnet... 26 head is slightly lower than 25 also, so a few variables that are changing between ppls experience, maybe a trimming of the hood brace & custom sump setup is all thats needed to retain stock bonnet.

No matter what mate, I think we all expect photos & tyre 'warming' videos when finished :)

we have just finished building one (rb26/30 s15

bonnet fouls -- this is with rb20 x member and lower rx7 series 1 aftermarket solid mounts (lower than the rb20 mounts)

so i can say right now that it would not fit with std mounts (rb20 mounts + brackets + xmember) - i have one in front of me!

we have a fibreglass bonnet on there and took a TINY bit out of one place and she now closes no dramas

cant take photos if necessary

Back to the RB20's and 25's not fitting without bonnet mods; i'm pretty sure that the people having problems are still retaining the factory intake manifold and that is where their problem lies. with an after market intake manifold there is no problem. As per the 30 question ECC has answered it.

Re-drill the engine mount bracket holes further down 15mm as outlined in the HUGE RB30 thread. I did this to mine and it worked a treat.

bad news as this drops the sump below the xmemeber and is the fist thing to strike the ground in a S-chassis.

You can only do that with the rb20 and rb25de brackets anyway. 25det,26 even RB30(exhaust side) have cast fancy looking mounts that don't really provide the room to do that, safely.

really if your a smudge out using rb20 brackets id just fit the rb30de brackets as they will move the motor back a tiny bit more(5-10mm) and cost literally $5 from U-pull it or alike.

if it's a bigger drama (silvias) there is more options with x members and bracket combos. best being 33 rb25det x-member with matching brackets and rb25de,rb20,rb30,rb26 engine mounts (or any custom about 40mm high that lines up) the stock 33 mounts are about double the height as the rest.

i am currently doing this conversion and am using a r32 cross member and planning to use vl engine mounts??

will this be suitable and will the stock bonnet close with the motor in???

also i will be running a rb25 box and i have bashed the tunnel out so it fits, does anybody know if the shifter will come out the standard hole???

thanks for help..

denis

I have done this with a rb30/25 into a s13 the r32 x member will sitt the engine to high from what I was told so I got a a31 x member and engine mounts, this is supposed to be lower.

Then I had to lower the x-member 10mm and cut out the bracing in the bonnet.

It shuts and I have about 5-10mm clarence BUT I have not started the engine yet so dont know what happens during use if I get a big dent due to engine movment or if it fits OK.

    • Will have a look at that. I cant see any leaks
    • Put another overflow bottle (ie, a 1.25 coke bottle or similar) under the overflow hose and see if it is being pushed out there or if it is disappearing into the engine.
    • Staring on a stand is no issue. You just have to wire everything up, give it fuel and cross your fingers that the stand is robust enough. Arranging the inlet plumbing is often the hardest part, without any surrounding structure to hand some of it from. No need for coolant if you only want to run it for <1 minute. As to the gearbox - I think the little Aisin box is a bit stronger than the other small Nissan boxes that went behind SRs, but I wouldn't be too keen to test its limits with the torque of a boosted 25. I don't know if you can retain the box and the tailshaft. The box won't connect to the RB without an adapter of some sort, which is either a plate that will push the engine forward (which is not good for fitting it into the bay's available space) or push the box back, which messes with the box position and tailshaft length - OR - cut and shut work on the bellhousing, which is a long way from "least modification". I'd be buying a new 370Z 6 speed or similar, doing what has to be done to that to make it fit RB (ie, cut and shut bellhousing) and the requisite tailshaft custom/mods.
    • Hi Everyone I am from West Pennant Hills in NSW. Been too busy until recently to attend to my RB25DET Series 2 engine until recently. I am planning to stick it into the S15 shell at this stage, unless a nice SR20DET turns up... For now, i am going to try and get the RB25 running and working well then decide what gearbox to use. My preference is to retain the SR20DET  6 speed gearbox and tail shaft to retain as much and least modifications as i can avoid. I am an old guy and won't be doing any heavy drifting so i don't need a bullet proof gearbox Does anyone have experience with starting the RB on a stand? I got everything setup as much as I can with the info i can find... endless searching and videos on Youtube I would be great to get some pointers Cheers Songo
    • Hey all, Recently have had my s1 r33 gtr serviced and noticed my coolant reservoir was topped up to the max line. Took the car out for 1 yesterday and noticed today the reservoir is completely empty.  Any ideas? Radiator is full
