Hey all , im looking at getting the above mentioned car

just wanting to know how many km i should be looking at per tank and also , how much does it cost to fill a tank?

another quick q - how reliable are these cars , i know power is easy to get from them but am i going to be replacing the motor once it hits 150xxx km?

most seem to be around the 10x xxx km mark , so how many more kms do they have in them?

cheers guys and gals!

ps if anyone wants to show me there r33 gtst s2 manual that they have for sale in melb or close to , give me a pm and we can have a chat

should get 400+k's easy on a stocker depending on how you drive it. more for highway driving.

in general the car is very reliable, obviously the more you modify it the more risk of problems as with any car. that said there are always lemons in any bunch of cars usually because of how poorly the previous owner(s) have maintained it so always do a thorough check.

they hav plenty more k's on them based on how heavily modded it is.

all comes down to how its been maintained before it hits your hands.

yeah true. , everything seems to be around the 100 xxx km mark which is really just under 10k KM a year , so i suppose thats pretty decent.

i suppose im better off buying a stocker , but if i find something with a few mods ie exhaust, cooler, wheels it should be alright.

than for ya help

Mines a 32 not a 33 but I get between 450-500kms out of a tank every week but I probably dont drive as hard as most.Only mods to mine are Exhaust and pod filter(135kws at wheels) My 32 has just clocked up 235000 ks(Had it from 71000ks)and has been extremely reliable/nil breakdowns. It all how you drive/maintain them.cheers Marty

Couldnt agree more with the responses here.

If its been well maintained you shouldnt have a problem at all. That said, perhaps at 150,000kms a few gaskets will most likley need changing if it hasnt already done so.

In terms of kms per tank. Anywhere from 350-450 depending on mods on the car and how you drive it.

If its seing something less than 300 than theres a problem with the car or how the car has been tuned (if it has)

Agree with everything that has been said here. But I'll just point out that most of them have had their clocks wound back at some point in their life. If its got 100xxx on the clock you may aswell add another 50 - 70 thousand kms onto that and you would be closer the mark. Make sure you look at the interior when your looking at one. Worn steering wheel, seats and gear stick cover are all signs that the car most likely has over 150,000kms on it. Also the syncros on 4th and 5th gear tend to let go in the r33's when you get into the higher kms. Give it a hard change into 4th and 5th if it crunches thats another indicator of the true mileage on the car.

Dont be put off by this though because they are still really reliable, as long as you look after them :) Good luck on buying one you won't regret it

Forget abotu looking at the KM's as stated above they are almost all wound back. For a real idea of KM look at things like the drivers seat, you will see wear on the outside hip support, also check the 'leather' on the handbrake boot, the wear on the gearstick and also on the steering wheel. This will tell you how much use the car has had

As for fuel consumption, if you really have to ask then it will cost too much. I have a big thread on fuel economy for R33 gts-t's, which will give you detailed info if you can be bothered finding it. Basically its all down to how you drive and if its city or freeway. When my cra was making 200rwkw i was struggling to get over 270km per tank, changed filters, plugs O2 sensor blah blah blah and it went up to about 320. My cra now has 250rwkw and i did a whole tank driving for economy (car only went above 12% inhector duty cycle 2-3 times) and hey presto i got 420km!!!

So as i said its all down to how you drive and the tune, thats if the filters and sensors are operating correctly.

    • Just had this happen to me too.  R32 GTR.   Also broke "just before going out onto the track" - someone up there is looking out for us... Very scary since I was about to do a narrow street course with zero run-off and curbs everywhere. Many people on here upgrading to billet uprights and R35 bearings?   Or buying new OEM knuckles?  I am not keen to replace with another s/h 30 year old fatigued part.
    • Top off with distilled water and see what happens. If you keep losing coolant then you know to start looking.
    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
