Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with people/busines' who do aftermarket LPG fitment in Melbourne? Area, time it took, quality and price woud be great.

I've just inherited a neat daily driver which I'm considering the conversion. I have looked around on the internet this weekend but can find only limited info. The car is a 3.8L commodore (yeah yeah I know, no need for comments) and I want to make it as cheap to run as possible.

I have heard that there are places which will do it for no more than the cost of the govt rebate. Can anyone confirm?

Cheers

Nick

Where are you in melb?

Simon from NT performance did my SS for me. He's in Footscray. Give him a call on 96873074

I'm in South Melbourne, so Footscray is only 10mins away. I'll give him a call tmw. What did you pay if you dont mind me asking?

I got my 5.0L falcon converted to LPG by PARNELL Gas

They are up in Laverton and they do an awesome job. Only took them 1 day to do mine and it was a very neat factory install.

From memory I had a 70 useable litre tank, factory fuel gauge also doubled as an LPG gauge

Cost was about $2,400 from memory, so only about $400 after I got the rebate from the Government

I actually bought the car off him and he installed the gas for me for free. Obviously he got the rebate. I think it takes about a day to install it. He's a nice guy. Tell him that you got his details from Russell that bought his SS.

doesnt that government rebate thing run out soon, like expires..

just asking cause looking for a daily, and also would like it to be a cheap to run as possible..

when i herd the gov grant was expiring soon, probably better to buy 1 already done then miss out on the rebate????

You can never have the best of both worlds because there is always a compromise. I've had 2 cars on duel fuel.

My first gas car was an old V8 VH Commodore (carby) and it was tuned to suit gas and as a result pinged (knocked) when on petrol because the timing was too advanced.

My new car is a VS SS Commodore.

It doesn't run as well on gas but that's to be expected because it's designed to run on petrol.

It idles high on petrol now (about 1200rpm) to compensate for when it runs on gas (about 600rpm). It can't be the same for both.

Also it loses heaps of power. Had it dyno'd at the RE customs dyno day and it made 130rwkw on petrol and 80rwkw on gas.

I'm really happy with it though because it's cheap to run and is great for towing and if I need more power I just press the petrol button.

If you want a good gas system it would have to be dedicated gas or something like gas research. No good if you run out of gas though. Can't just get a jerry can of gas to get going again!

Due to the higher octane of gas it can actually push more power out of your car than standard fuel if you go ahead and do a full gas conversion so it runs only gas. However that is more expensive.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
