Hi Guys,

I'm shopping for a split system for the front of my R34 sedan (I am presuming the interior at the front is basically the same as the 2 door) and am looking for ideas as to the best place to mount the tweeters.

I read on another post that someone was mounting theirs in the triangular plastic pieces near the side mirrors so has anyone got a similar or better suggestion?

Also where have you mounted your Subs, I am considering making a fiberglass enclosure into the drivers side quarter so as to retain as much boot space as possible.

All help much appreciated.

Mark.

mate had his tweets mounted in the sail panels (plastic triangle bit u mentioned), and worked quite well, just depends on what tweeters you get and how they sound 'off-axis' and how much you angle them. as a general rule aim for the opposite side front seat headrest

if you wish to retain boot space then custom fibreglass box will be the way to go

yep i did that on mine. i used eclipse splits they had a choice of two mounts. the usual flush one and an angled cup for them to sit in. so its angled towards me fine. just make sure you line them up properly before drilling and make sure they clear the door seal as you dont wanna break them off the first time you close the door :) didnt check that on mine but luckily i was just clear of it.

also as for the custom box you can get premoulded ones for the r34. i got quoted about $350 from maroochy car sound and sound in motion. im sure there are other places around on the goldcoast brisbane area that can get them. saves doing the custom work yourself.

The tweets for my NV Splits are surface mounted on the triangle pieces near the mirror. They were a bit big to be fitted in the factory locations and the triangle sections would be cheaper to replace than a door card if I never need to revert back to stock.

I ended up getting my splits fitted by an installer, I didn't have the time patience to do them and just might as well cause they were apparently a bit of a muck around to fit.

I've got a 15" woofer in an angled box enclosure, though I'd like to do a custom enclosure at some stage with a pair of 12s. Try get the subs mounted further to the back of the car. So far experimenting with moving the box around... right at the back facing the boot opening below the lid nets the best dB, though I recently turned it around to fire into the cabin but as far back to the boot opening as possible and there's not a HUGe amount of loss in dB but it sounds a lot cleaner though and a lot less panel resonance.

I'd be talking to an installer that has had experience with custom installs in an R34, in particular the Sedan.

Do you have a photo of one of those R34 set ups at all? I'm fairly interested in going a custom enclosure in the future and $350 isn't too bad considering the cost of going completely custom. Is there much difference between the boot of a 4Door Sedan and 2 Door Coupe?

As it turns out from buying a pre-made sub box for my r34 - it seems as though they're totally different and now I need to ship it back for refund (at my expensive), so I'm gonna be out of pocket about $80 in total ...

It honestly hadn't even occured to me that the boots would be that different (if at all!)

Ok, my tweeters are mounting on my doors in the Triangle peice. They arent flush mounted because i asked them not to.

sound great, keeps the sound inside when i want to listen to it..

Or when with the mates, open the doors and vocals are still clear..

I will try to take some pics tonight if i can

My subs are just mounted in a Dual Sub box to no specific specs.

Sitting in my boot.

Amps are mounted on that staircase look-a-like thing lols.

With my front splits the tweeters are mounted opposite the mirror on the triangle angled into the cabin. Rear splits, the tweeters are mounted on the parcel shelf between the speakers and the side of the car on 45 degree angle into the cabin. I've got a 12" Sub in the boot nothing monstrous produces enough bass. Gives fantastic depth to the sound, crystal clear and hits every note, my best install yet.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that

    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
