hows the head gasket goin, Eugene?

we did a compression test and it's perfect across all 6, quite surprised considering the abuse (engine has 100K). the oil that was pissing out turned out to be a cam seal, so that was amended followed by a fresh service and she's healthy as!

got in some adjustable camber and castor, so we'll see how the suspension goes this weekend at a motorkhana i'm going. there's really not much else to do to the car suspension wise and i'm not really interested in getting more power at the moment, a number of factors; i'm starting a phd, money (going to be buying a house late next year) and most importantly the headache.

i'm sure i can still go another 5-10 seconds faster on any track with more practice and a tweak of the suspension. i've bought a stringline wheel alignment kit a few months back so i'll be playing around with my settings over the next couple of months to try and find the sweet spot.

how's things your end Cris?

and skyline's will always be a never ending pit of cash. kinda keen in throwing my money on a newer car VE ute has taken my fancy of late.

RB30 block is still sitting in my laundry ;)

Thats lucky Eugene.. head gaskets are not fun to fix, and then you still need to hunt down the cause.

Congrats on finishing the degree by the way!

I was thinking you were taking some time off for a project of yours.. :D

Wow, 5 - 10 seconds is large gap dude. I suppose racetrack brking is very difficult to get right. Have you set down any times anywhere yet?

Unfortunatelly all forms of motorsport have taken a backseat. After being flat chat broke after several weekends of general maintanence the car was mechanically perfect! But now im missing a front end. Im trying to save to get GTR bonnet, quarter panel bent out with radiator support too, then re-spray. Still hunting down a couple of parts too.

Next plan after that was to fit my GTR and DBA brakes and get it back on the road for a Sydney to Tasmania trip.

hahahaha.. well the RB30DE build has been put off indefinately, I may evn have to sell the parts I have hunted and gathered to fund the car too.. ;)

Why, oh why couldn't I be interested in pottery, or a book club, something thats not so bloody expensive!

p.s. - love the silhouette with those LMGT2 rims!!! hot!!

Thanks dude! She's my baby.

Its rare to see such a nice and clean 31!

Love it!

More pics please

Ask and you shall receive! She could look better in these pics - needs a polish. Will take some mad ones with an SLR in a few days.

thanks yeah i decided to divert all my car funds into my hecs debt, i'm officially debt free now. i can finally start concentrating on doing other things without having that sitting at the back of my mind.

lol @ pottery, but i do agree why do we have such expensive hobbies!? sorry to hear about the motor build, such is life unfortunately - i've never met a single person that had a flawless and easy engine conversion, engine build, etc.

a guy i know made some crazy 400+ HP and at the beginning of this year he only wanted to spend 10-15K max, i think he's tripled that figure now and still counting.

also to keep the thread on topic here are some photos from yesterday courtesy of zennon

man hot 31

although on any car I HATE trim, take the black trim off and it'd be porn!!!

Rob, you should consider a Coupe style lip for your 31...might just finish it off i rekn, or it could ruin it...but no matter how many times i look at your car tho it instantly strikes me as a coupe, very neatly done 31 4dr thats for sure

did you get hotplates or are they standard Silhouette tailights?

Do you mean the black waistband? Without it they look a bit odd.. as basically every 31 was made with them bar the GTS2 which had a red waistband.. Hmm off to photoshop!!

I just finished putting an RB25DE into her so once all the little bits and pieces and problems are sorted I'm going to save up for a bodykit.. In my mind is CCS side skirts and rear bar, and an R31House front lip which look f**king awesome in my opinion.

Taillights are Series 3 hot plates which have been tinted. Pics belooowww. (excuse the dent in the rear bar - some idiot ran up the back of me. getting it fixed in a week or so)

And this is the R31House front lip which I am hoping to have on my car within a few months. (the red one - so it gives a pretty good idea of what mine will look like! eg. awesome)

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
