hey all,

my 1st ever traffic infringement (dirty number plate which the officer claimed was illegible) which was accompanied with a defect notice, was on my way to work this morning slowing for a red light when the cops (aka cops) pulled me over long story short, slapped me 318 dollars for a dirty number plate (anyone got any legal advice for this one? is there any extra charges if i took it to court and lost) and then 79 dollars defect for the following - 1. bov, pod filter only 90% enclosed and a missing washer bottle lid (the last ones a wtf?) also they crossed on the blue sheet that my exhaust is too loud and needs to be repaired for noise/emissions (although they didnt test it...is it still required?)

now from what i understand an AUVIS (australian unregistered vehicle inspection station) is just a place where i can get a blue slip right?

so in one day i lost a weeks income (318 + 79 + 160 (change exhaust and change back) + stock bov 50) fkn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also the officer said i need an engineers certificate to run a pod filter, is this true? cant i just have it fully enclosed (you see it was fully enclosed until i moved the charcoal canister away so if i move it back in there i should be able to pass it off, its one of those hi octane racing ones)

but anyway hopefully someone with some good legal knowledge on here will be able to help me in my argument for the dirty number plate.....

HELP!

Also where they have crossed "exhaust/noise emissions" does that mean i need to just change the exhaust or need a full emissions test done via epa etc? And ive been reading in other threads but to no avail that i can go to the RTA first hand and check with one of them as to what i really need fixed, yet not one of these posts actually prove that this is correct.....

Ok. So you're number plate, it is illegible, unfortunately. It is a pretty decent fine. If you take it to court with all due respect you have bucklies chance of getting off. The other aspect is that when you are found guilty you will also have to incur $67 court costs on top of the mentioned tickets plus legal representation if you decide you need it. You will have the car tested for the exhaust, unfortunately anything which is not standard is a defect unless engineered.

I work as a cop so I am not simply talking out of my arse, there are alot of ppl that will tell you to fight it and all that sort of crap, many have no idea about law or what they are talking about. I guess that decision lies with you. Basically to satisfy the proofs of an illegible/ unreadable registration plate all that has to proven is that the plate was 'unreadable', and due to it being dirty I imagine it was. It is a bit of a harsh ticket, one that I doubt I would write someone myself.

Kind Regards mate and I hope this helps,

Brenton

no, you don't have to go the epa, just the blue slip. They have to test the volume as part of the blue slip procedure i believe.

The dirty number plate was his excuse to pull you over (maybe thats the new random breath test). The fact that he charged you for that on top of the defects just proves he was a prick.

i see, although it is readable as its only covered in a light layer of exhaust gas, and i still havent cleaned it so i could provide before and after photographs etc, but i will ask my mate who is a lawyer anyway, frankly i think that is very harsh especially since ive seen speeding tickets with less $$$ on it

phewf, this makes it easier to get it passed via blue slip, the hi octane air box will pull through (bit of ductape and some super sticky electrical tape to patch the holes up and presto fully enclosed LOL) what do you reckon would this pass a blue slip thing?

i wonder if you would've been pulled over if it was a holden v8 ute with mud all over it from a country ute show....

f**king hate the way sydney has become.... i feel for you mate, as im in the e.p.a boat at the moment, been going on over 4months now, thousand's spent etc and still not passed...

That sucks but it sounds like all legit defects and fines to me. As for the washer bottle lid.. Your car isn't susposed to leak any type of fluids on the road.

lol its been empty for 2 years hehehe (im just gonna take it out this sunday) save the hassels, i dont have a problem with the defects its just the dirty number plate fine really!

is your car a white r33? i passed one the other day i think in newtown which was parked and the rear was very dirty and the numberplate was illegible. seems like a fair fine how hard is it to wipe your number plate clean

    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
    • Yeah - I mean, go the other way. Smaller range. Not larger.
    • To re-cap, I bought: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8G-Infiniti-Q50-Q60-2014_1601171829627.html?spm=a2756.trade-list-buyer.0.0.2cd476e9FTIlKE As you can see, if I bought 20 it was $653, but I bought 1 so it was $1,170. I was very tempted to buy 2 and resell 1 at 25% cheaper. @MBS206, I am not sure if they do a Kluger one, here is their list but it might be there under a global model name: http://www.lsailt.com/product/android-interface?page=1 Keep in mind these full android replacements have basically all the bits a phone does (cpu, ram, storage, wifi, bluetooth, usb interfaces) other than a screen (it uses a host), thus the $800+ cost. Android Auto screen mirroring is MUCH cheaper as it's just a cut down shell, input mirroring and output mirroring BTW I also need that "screen off" feature, it is much harder to see wildlife even if a dash is reasonably dark. Both the Fuga and V37 have display off buttons for night use, they just come back on for a second or 3 if you interact with it, eg skip a song.
    • I use FCC car launcher. It has an option for different backgrounds, so instead of turning the screen off you can swipe 'up' to a black screen with no background/icons. (mine has the time on it only). It's kinda nice. Also lets you use gestures to say swipe to go to next song, etc.
