Hi all,

Ive noticed today the the gauge that shows the Front Diff Torque has started to move during normal straight line driving and the more i put my foot down the higher the gauge will go.

Usually the gauge only moved when i turned a corner quick i think, but never during straight line driving.

Which one is normal!

I think i may have found the answer to my own question.

Is it because I have 17" wheel all round and the tyres i have are 255/40 on the rear and 235/45 at the front?

I recently changed wheels and these were the tyres that came with it.

Does this have a negative effect at all?

Also, the car came with a torque split controller...

Definitely get same rolling diameter tires front and rear, otherwise one set of wheels are technically trying to travel a greater distance then the other set of wheels, the attesa thinks you have slip and engages 4wd, doing so constantly overheats and wears out the clutch plates in the transfer case

Yes.. You will loose ABS

in the fuse box in the engine bay.. on the left as you open up the bonnet.. the fise said something like ANTI/4WD/PTC.. or of the sorts.. its the first green fuse in the row of small fuses towards the center of the thengine bay.. This way you wont loose abs..

You can run different sized tyres front and rear as long as the rolling diameter is the same (or close to). An example of this would be something like 265/35/18 and 235/40/18, if my maths is correct.

No good to run the car on 2wd for too long with just the fuse pulled out too. If you want to do it rwd, take out the transfer case too.

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same.     • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
