Replaced stock fuel pump to a nismo unit and having troubles starting at cold starts and sometimes warm starts. The nismo fuel pump works fine, just needs a little accelerator and then it idles normal.

Replaced FPR with a standard unit with old fuel pump and was starting fine.

Replaced fuel sending rubber and lined up all markers.

Has standard ecu.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Cheers in advaned

.......

.. ummm are these two separate issues, or has the 'hard to start' issue been instigated from the Nismo pump change?

I thought u meant the later... as needing throttle input at cold start might be due to too much fuel delivery; checking your base would be the ticket no?

Assuming the red text was meant to be "and", does the above mean, that when you put the std pump and reg back in - cold starting was fine, and by that do you mean you did a Nismo pump and an aftermarket adjustable FPR change?

Search sau 'fuel base pressure' :)

did you clip it to the bottom of the tank properly? check it's secure down there.

Checked the pump and it is secure

Could be the battery isnt quite upto the task

RB's need good voltage or they struggle to fire sometimes

When driving it the voltage reads above 12 at the cluster, will have to check with multi meter, what should it read when cranking?

Problem started when i placed the nismo pump

To clarify,

Std fuel pump with brand new standard FPR (non adjustable) was starting fine. Since new nismo pump the problem occurred.

Will do a search, but how do i test for 'fuel base pressure', I suppose that I need to a mechanic.

Have you upgraded the wiring to the pump to cope with the extra load the new pump places on the electrics?

Shouldn't make a difference if you wait till the pump primes tho.

I did not think that I needed to run extra wiring, I thought it was only for the bosch pumps.

Has anyone needed to place extra wiring when installing nismo fuel pumps?

Cheers for the helping out.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
