can someone who's done this give me a step by step guide on how to take out the standard radio/headunit completely?

i've tried but the thing doesnt even move!

anyone?

1 - First pull out the ashtray and undo the screw behind it.

2 - Pull up the gear stick surround and undo the 2 silver screws at the bottom left/right of the storage bin.

3 - Using a thin flat blade screwdriver on the left side, prise out the 2 vents at the top of the console and disconnect the unit.

4 - Undo the 2 silver screw at the top of the heater controls.

5 - Pull out the heater controls, radio & stage bin (all in a cage together).

6 - Remove the radio from the cage (2 screws each side) and fit your radio.

7 - Using the following parts PC2-76-4 and PC5-87 connect your radio to the cars plugs.

8 - Refit going from step 5

pretty simple, ive done it a few times :P

^^ as above, but just be extra careful when you're taking out the air vents with the flat blade screwdriver, the paint is very easy to scratch.

Take your time and it will be sweet

how do i do this step which screws ? post image if possibl please?

You do exactly that. Pull up the gear stick surround (obviously unscrew the gear knob) just pull the surround up and out. the screws will be quite easy to see once its up. Also don't forget that the cigarette lighter socket has 2 small plugs connected to it, so don't pull the surround out too far.

Have a tea towel on hand or similar to rest over the gear area. It allows you to remove the setup straight backwards without touching the sides, then rest the unit carefully while you remove plugs/leads from the A/C and stuff. As mentioned the plastic either side of the unit will scratch it you look at it sideways.

Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
