They sure are.....you don't buy one to go fast around corners or down the 1/4 in 9 secs......I think you've missed the whole point of owning one.

True. Different bikes, for different people, for different budgets.

I personally wouldn't own a Harley (I'll prob eat my words later), but I do like to look at them. And I like the dedication some people put into their rides (Sled falls into this category), but I hate the "gold card" Harley owners! Thats what puts me off, is the attitude of some riders ... as well as sportsbike riders too (granted), but I am slowly moving away from the sportsbike scene.

Never dismiss a machine simply by looking at it. You gotta taste the exotic/luxury fruits manufacturers have to offer.

On the subject of reliability......I can't think of a bike more reliable than the Hog.

Knuckle Head & Shovel Head engines have been around since Noah and are still going strong today.

I've always loved the springer front end ... but not with too much rake.

My riding mates are one-by-one taking up the "cruiser" challenge, and I may just join them one day. Then I'll be in the shits ... wouldn't be able to decide what I want. Although a Nighttrain with a springer conversion would be nice :teehee:

Go down to Peter Stevens on your bike (so they can see that you are a serious rider) and take some of their machines for a spin.

First time I rode one freaked me out a bit because of the weight, vibration and I wasn't used to sitting so upright with my legs stretched out in front but you get hooked real fast!

Ride a good one and you'll want one.

They're amongst the heaviest and most expensive bikes in the world yet they break record sales year after year and they hold their value better than most other bikes.....must be doing something right.

Harley's selling a lifestyle that other manufacturers can still only covet.

If it wasn't for the Hog there would be no Easyrider, Stone, Harley & The Marlborough Man and Wild Hogs!

I agree its an image/lifestyle item, hence the comment [b](they have a nice sound and an image, but mechanically they are decades behind the Jap bikes)[/b]

I can really apreciate a Hog as a work of art (especially when modified as much as yours) and its a part of the Harley culture to modify them (have any 2 owners got the same bike, seems most have added their own touch in some way).

As you said though, not the best an going around corners or stopping quickly.

The Aprilla is also a sexy looking machine

Yeah thanks........alot of people make this mistake but you may be surprised to hear that mine isn't a Hog?!

Just found this on the net after last years National Comp on the Gold Coast.

Try & pick the ugly mug in the back row holding the biggest trophy (came home with 3 from 3 in the end.)

guess one of the friends is Jarred .. I like his GSXR. myself I would rather a sports bike. to be honest I wouldnt really get any bike. I cant believe the way some people drive these days. I wouldnt feel safe with all the dopey hopeless drivers out there.

Well when you've been riding 19 years like myself, you develop your "dickhead" radar to a fine tune. True, you can't pick 'em all, but why stop doing what you love, because there are ill-skilled fools out there.

Yes, Jarrad is one of those mates entering the cruiser market :) He's got the goatee and bald head, so he'd fit right in. :D I still love sportsbikes myself, but my taste in bikes has expanded in recent years.

      I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

      My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.

      So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
