Re: 40km/h limits

Has just been imposed on Chapel - which is fine as you can't speed along there anyway. Mind you - seems to be another 'misdirected' approach at safety...

Biggest prob on Chapel is idiots not looking when they open their doors and causing cyclists to crash (which hurts - most cyclist related death road in Aus) and motorbikes using the 'pedestrian safe zone' in the middle of the road as their own private autobahn.

I nearly took out a Ducatti in the Lada - I was turning right and he passed me on the RHS! Idiot - deserves to be squashed by a Russian box of crap.

Ah - just my 2c, but I really wish they'd actually think about what they are trying to achieve and not just scream 'more cameras, lower limits'.

It's driver awareness and education stupid!?

Note in the above... not ONE mention of lives saved.. its not hard to see what the strategy is.

There are plenty of ways to actually change public behaviour rather than just fining them. But of course, none of these are ever considered - because not only does it not make them $ from a fine, it also means they might have to (shit) spend money on some proactive initiatives.

There are going to be 16 of these 'shopping strips' speed reductions around the state. Some have already gone in such as Clayton Rd.

As for the yellow light cameras, they are constantly on. If you speed through the intersection at any time, they will get you. So you can get 2 tickets at once. I think that there are 110 of these around the state, but when you think of the number of intersections in the state, it is only a small number.

As for speed reductions, get ready for lower speeds around schools. The speed will be reduced to 40km/h on most roads around schools. Depending on the road, it may be permanent, or a time based system.

I guess the government is just pushing for lower speeds all round.

yes, those orange light cameras have gone up everywhere.. i'm trying to compile a list.

I guess the government is just pushing for lower speeds all round.

The government is pushing for more money all around, thats all they care about, plain and simple of it.. its all in those figures I posted above. How do you get an extra 30% increase in fine revenue?? make the rules 30% stricter.

Just think about - $427M in fine revenue.. Say 2.5M drivers in Melbourne.. that is an AVERAGE of $170 PER DRIVER PER YEAR the government is aiming to collect through traffic infringements. Something stinks... and its name is Bracks.

I totally agree that the Bracks government is messed up. They need more money, so the up the fines. Not really a fair way to do things at all. But I'm sure that they will pay for it at the next election.

I've seen the way that they justify these reductions in speed around schools. It is shocking. Realistically, there are no crashes around schools. This whole reduction thing is just to make the government look good, and get the votes from the parents. If you ask me, there are so many better things that $23 Million could be spent on.

Most people are actually oblivious that the state budget would be in defecit if we did not have this traffic revenue. People claim "if you are worried about it well just don't speed" but that is such a simplistic and unthought out answer its almost childlike.

Its a very sad state of affairs (excuse the pun) if the only way the state can be supported through fining people rather than doing positive things and initiatives to bring the state forward.

Thing is I don't think the government is paying for it enough, and awareness is not just high enough on this issue and the true facts involved. If all the tens of thousands of users in all the car forums, and their friends and family were made more aware of the problems then something can be done as a collective group - its the only way Government will listen and do something to rethink their strategy.

If you look at any stat that they goverment has provided, it is only from their point of view.

The drop to 50km/h on local streets has actually raised the number of crashes as cars are now spending more time on these roads. It is true that these crashes don't kill people, but they are still happening.

This latest number that the government is pushing that there is less deaths this year than last is true, but is that only because of the speed cameras, or it it due to everything that is being run at the moment?

The worse thing of all, is that i work for these people. This being the case, i see all the numbers that we provide the government, and then see how they change them all, or re-word it so that it makes their case stronger.

I like the idea of leaving the state. The government can't afford to back down again like they did with the tolls, so all of these things are going to stay. No matter how much people complain.

But if you look at other countries, such as a few in Europe, their governments went crazy like ours with the speed cameras, and now no one speeds, and the government is left with this huge maintenance bill for cameras that are catching no one. It is just a matter of time before all this dies down.

Thing is they'll always claim a year that has a road toll lower than the previous year as an indicator that its all justified. And yet the following year when its up again they are strangely quiet and pass blame to the drivers and say its due to insufficent measures.

If you look at the stats, sure the road toll is a lot down on 10 years ago, when cameras, booze busses and things first came in -but since then its been pretty much flat with +- 15% variation each year, no matter what rules they've changed over that time.

Its all lies and statistics...

It is, but there is very little that anyone can do about it all. Everyone says it, all you can do is just slow down. Pick your spots that you want to go a little faster in. That is all that we can do.

Personally, every cent that i can keep in my pocket, and away from the Government is a good thing. I just hope that Bracks is sent packing soon. Jeff would have never gone this way.

I love your new sig by the way.

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
