Hi All,

Does anyone know if there is a stock immobiliser in the V35's?

My Audi had an immobiliser in the ignition which was de-activated by the stock key (had a little transmitter in the key body).

If they dont have one as stock can anyone suggest a good one to install?

it was a dealer-fitted option in the V35

i have one and it doesn't sound when you arm the car but you can sure as hell hear it when you try to unlock the car with the key when the alarm is armed!

alternatively i have spoken to chris rogers about this in the past and there are a few threads on this already - but installing an aftermarket system is definately possible

also, its a mandatory requirement for an immobiliser to be fitted as part of compliance regardless of what the car has so you definately have at least the compliance alarm

I thought compliance required an immobilser but I kind of dont want to take any chances.

I think I will go and get an alarm installed, I am just a bit warey of people who don't know what they are doing.

P.S. I am trying the clear plastic polish today on my headlights. Just got my car back as it was at the dealer for 2 weeks getting the VTC replaced. Glad I didnt have to foot the $3300 bill!

the advantage of buying a car already in australia, like i did, is that the cars on the yard are already complianced. that means that an immobiliser is already installed and working. the ones they screw up i have no cares about as i won't even know about them! the ones in front of you have been done successfully.

every V35 has an aussie-fitted one and if that is all you want then you've already got one and are wasting your money.

My V35 Premium has a little sticker on the drivers side window / triangle showing a key through an engine with "SECURITY" written under it.

I also got a spare 3rd key that has no remote opening buttons and is a redish colour - not sure what thios key is for?

I am assuming my car has an immobiliser but no Alarm?

I have the RED LED on the dash that flashes when the car is locked and unlocked - but I just sat in the car and locked it with the remote and jumped about - no alarm - then opened the door - no alarm then locked the car with the remote and opened the door with the key... no alarm...

Insurance requires an Australian standard Imob - does anyone know if the stock one is up to spec?

so you have two remote keys and a red valet key.

the valet key will not open the glovebox but opens the drivers door and starts the car.

as for immobilsers :

the car comes with a NATS 2.8 or NATS 5 item from the factory. that one is not Oz compliant.

Oz compliant (to ADR 82/00 ) are mongoose M15 mongoose MX40MK II autowatch 573,674 , Autowatch 446RLI or 446P.

these are really shop dependent. the constant one across teh board is the 573. that is a transponder tag. no tag - no go.

the 446 versions I had put on the list so I can use them on various cars here in brisbane as they are compliant with the ADR82/00 rules.

the other thing on these for Oz stds compliance (for insurance) is the install side of it. there is a standard for this and it needs to be followed.

Sorry to be a pain Chris, but what is the Standard that needs to be followed when installing the immobiliser, is it quoted in the ADR you stated?

no. it is part of the Oz Stds. ADR states how the unit should work and to what vehilces it should be fitted to ( every thing after 07/2001.)

So you follow an Australian Standard for the Alarm install? Is that a document from the Australian Standard Website and if so what number is it?

I always thought that Alarms were just installed as per the Alarm instructions...

hey guys,

just picked up my v35 lastnite...(very happy)..I have a question about the immob.

When I lock the car via the remote i monitor the action from the centre dash LED, it flashes, I guess this is ok.

But I have another LED (marked as 'security') on the drivers side that does nothing....no flashes.

I tried locking the car via the remote, as per normal, then opened the door manually (red key), the car opened and still started successfully!!

I would've thought that the 'immob' would've kicked in and prevented this(?) ((engine from starting)).

I know there is no alarm, that's cool, but I didn't expect the engine to start!.......Is there something I can check to see if the 'immob' circuit is working??...no flashes from the 'security led' makes me curious as to whether the system is working.

I guess my insurance people would like to know too!

Great. Sorry to dredge up this old topic but in preparation for bringing in an 08/09 V36, I have my tried and true Clifford Avantguard 4 unit from my old car that I want to carry across to this vehicle particularly for its Blackjax (anti-carjacking) feature but also for its great performance with its various sensors. This is just too good an alarm for me and I'd like to continue using this beast rather than give it up for something I may not be happy with as its replacement.

I guess with all that I have read in this thread, this alarm will not meet ADR and Australian Standards requirements since the wiring harness is colour coded. That and the fact that I am an electrical engineer but not licensed for this sort of automotive work probably won't help me out here. Am I really stuck with having to pay for someone licensed to install an alarm that they supply in order to meet compliance requirements?

the thing you are going to have fun with is the CAN system in those. whlist the clifford item is good getting it into that car will be fun. I would suggest talking to the installer you used for that alarm. I would also consider the G5 as that IS compliant BUT I'm not entirely sure there is a CAN version of it.

Can people please confirm for me (and others) that if you buy a car that is already imported into Australia (by import dealership and/or private) and has compliance, then it has an Australian Standard alarm and immobiliser system or at least an immobiliser system installed and working in order to have compliance?

And that you would only need to go and install an Australian Standard immobiliser system yourself or find a place to do it for you, if you buy a car without compliance or import a car and is yet to be complied?

@Chris Rogers: How and where can you check to see if what type of immobiliser is install in the car?

@ShadowKnyght & superspit: I concur, same thing has happen to me as well? I'm really confused, but I haven't tried to drive it other than been able to start up the engine...

Dmitiry who USED to work for Nagoya sold me one with no imobilizer, basically knew the compliancer and told him not to put one in there, so dodgy, stay away from him if you can!

Cody at Nagoya is awesome to deal with thank god..

Get a Mongoose M60 or 80 as they work well with our car, they are Australia approved. They have a upgrade kit if you have stock remote for the unlock/lock/boot but as mine didnt i just got the m80/g which came with 2.

Mine didnt have immobilizer either as factory

As for what immobiliser, lock the car, manually unlock using the key, see if u can start the car, if so = no immobiliser. what type is it if it wont start, look at the unlock remote, or go looking for the unit !! (not advised) :)

Does it matter what key is used in this process? im at work and dont have the red key with me and want to test this

well to my horror there is no immobiliser in my car at all FML, just opend it with the key it started, sat in the car locked it with the central then tried to start it and it started right away.

Thanks! What is the recommended way to go, the M80 or the M80 Upgrade? I was thinking the M80 Upgrade since I wouldn't have to carry around a remote, but now thinking it over. I don't THINK there are any good installers or installers that won't mess up the OE for the V35's, in Victoria (that I know of). Unless someone has installed the M80 Upgrade and is working perfectly from an installer in Victoria, I'm gonna go with the full non-integrated system M80 and run it and the OE separately (if think that is possible from what I have read).

If I was to go down the full non-integrated system path, should I stick with Mongoose or go with a Viper?

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
