Hey guys, just wanted confirmation on something. I've been told that to pass scrutineering I have to run some sort of door trim, it can't just be bare like the picture attached.

Is that right, or can I run without them?

would depend purely on the specific category regulations... i can't find a general rule in the manual.

i'm swiss cheesing the doors on the rx7, but covering with some c/f sheet cause i reckon it looks a bit ugly and unfinished.

It's only used for club sprints, but someone mentioned that there may be an issue to to being able to injure yourself on it in an accident. Just wanted to be sure as I need to get the cage made around my standard trims, or whether I can get them running closer to the doors without trim.

I got pinged for not having door trim and the possible injury hazard at last years Autralian Hillclimb Championships. I had to make a temporary door card out of cardboard and re-present to scrutineering. They were only concerned about the drivers door.

You are allowed to cut/modify the door cards and interior trim to clear roll cage members.

wouldn't surprise me, what was the basis of the claim or charge?

what are they trying to achieve... I mean its not going to stop anything coming through the door and if they are genuinely concerned about your arms why isn't a window net not a requirement!

Regardless of any ruling, I would still prefer to have some form of door card. Accidents can be very violent things and arms flailing around could become quite a mess coming into contact with sharp metal edges. It's something I've always been rather paranoid about. That and knees smashing into intrusion bars.

Yeah same Ben, but scrutineers applying rules that they believe should be in place, but aren’t documented really shit me.

To make mine doors look neat and tidy I'm doing similar to this, but in carbon....

that basically covers what they were concerned about. I had been meaning to get to it anyway purely from an aesthetics point of veiw.

There are regs that mandate this even in Sport Sedans:

3.7(ii) When front door trim is removed, it must be replaced with a flush-fitting rigid material, save that local modifications are permitted to facilitate fitment of roll over bar and anti-intrusion bars.

Take a look at your doors... If those doors cop a hit those thin metal sections joining your "speedholes" are liable to snap, point towards your body and attack.

Flat sheet aluminium door cards covered in lightweight carpet will make the car look nicer and that tiiiiiiiiiny bit safer :D

I hear you, but we'll if we were really serious about our doors turning against us surely a panel of aluminium honeycomb laminated with kevlar/cf would be the answer instead of shag pile!!

Hey Merli, that's not my door it's just an example but I see what you mean. My door hasn't been swiss cheesed like that, but I'm probably better off just going the door cards, or keeping my stock trims.

I think the aluminum sheet covered in thin carpet is the best option, the example on the Donut king GT-R turned out very neat, and the one posted by Stuart is very neat also.

hehehe.. Where do we stop? Probably when our wallets are empty :D

That said, I'm not sure that a cf/ck weave would be the best choice, as they both "shatter" and send armies of little shards to attack you instead of just bending on impact...

Possum Bourne Motorsport does the most exquisit carbon door cards I've seen to suit their cages..... can't find a pic right now. A matye bought an '07 spec C from Sti recently and the door trims are V droolworthy :D

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?

    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
