This box is located in the guard cavity on the passenger's side of the boot.

It has two plugs each with two wires.

I thought it might be the amplifier for the diversity antenna but the wires to the top plug are heavy by factory standards which suggests to me the box might draw more current than an antenna amp would need.

ok, went out and had a look in my 32 shell and i have the same thing, never noticed it before. so i got looking around in nissan fast. according to fast there is a loom that goes to an antenna in the rear passenger side of all 32's (i have never seen a 32 with an antenna in that spot though).

fast also shows an electrical box in the rear passenger side that it calls a Coil/Noise Suppressor linked into the stock audio equipment. i think this is what it is.

That's interesting.

If that is the case I can bin it because the factory stereo is long gone.

I just want to be sure though.

One of the 4 wires to this box appears to be shielded like a signal wire.

There is an antenna in the back windscreen.

I think the connector for it is on the passenger's side.

I know the antenna uses an amplifier but I don't know where it is in the car but it would make sense if it was near the antenna.

I wouldnt be so sure. My mate had a 33 of which we unplugged something similar in that same area and his car started to jutter etc. Something to do with

fuel pump? ballast im not sure. But i wouldnt go unplugging it just in case =)

It's definitely not part of the fuel system because I'm currently rewiring my fuel pump and I've traced out every wire and component from a schematic diagram.

The fuel pump control module is in the same spot on the driver's side and the ballast resistor is in the engine bay.

Does anyone know where the antenna amplifier is?

Could it be a voltage regulator for the demister?

Yep it could be a voltage amp regualtor whatever lol.

But trust me on this i've taken apart 3 R32's before. It's got a wire that runs to the rear demistor. It's not anything to do with the fuel pump as they are on the drivers side of the boot. If you remove it, you'll be fine. I did on my old R32 and never once had a problem.

On a R33 however it is an antenna OR just below the antenna motor is the factory butterfly control fot the exhaust. But this is only ON A R33

If one of the wires goes to a terminal on the rear windscreen it might be the antenna amp because the rear antenna is in the rear window glass with the demister filaments.

Hmm true never thought of that, I ripped the stereo out as well as for the race car so didn't really matter.

Isn't the antenna only on the front windscreen??

Then whats the middle line that runs along the very centre of your front windscreen??? Its got a wire connected to it and only on some R32's not all. I always thought it was an integrated one?

Yeah the front windscreen has an antenna also.

The system is called dual diversity or something similar.

Possibly one antenna for am the other for fm?

I found the antenna amp. on a schematic wiring diagram but it didn't say where it is located.

    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
    • @Stringycheese  Have you only gone to the one blue slip workshop?  There will be a heap of them where ever you live, good odds that the next place you go to will pass the car.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) every blue slip / engineering workshop will be different and will be happy passing or failing different things - despite working from the same set of rules. It's kinda like 2 lawyers arguing over a piece of legislation, each saying their interpretation is correct. Might seem strange that this happens when it comes to getting a modified car passed, but this is very much a thing. A big part of the game is finding an engineer / workshop that is on the same page as you.
    • Bah. I daily mine. ~60km per work day, 10-12 thousand km per year. What's the point of having a dirty old Datto and leaving it in the shed. It needs to be driven and enjoyed while the govco allows us to do so. It will only be a few years before we're forbidden to even start up internal combustion engines.
    • Judging by that spring perch and the normal looking spring on it - not a coilover. Well.... it is a coilover, just a stock format coilover, rather than what everyone calls a coilover.
    • Yes it is. We get stock from Nismo directly. I'm happy to take photos/video of it as proof before I ship it with timestamps or whathaveyou.
